thereuare Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Have you checked the Hotwire Hotel List for possible matches? Are you really considering a 2* hotel in the Water Tower zone when there are much higher rated, and better located, properties for only a little more? Same with the McCormick Place which is not really centrally located unless you're attending a convention in that area (or have some other reason to stay in the zone) Are you comfortable with an opaque purchase for this trip? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Really wouldn't consider the 2* when there's a 4* available for not much more. Additionally, given the similarity in prices between North of the River and South of the River, I'd recommend staying North of the River. I really, really wouldn't recommend staying in the McCormick Place area when there's hotels downtown for similar rates. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
newben Posted April 30, 2014 Author Report Posted April 30, 2014 Thank you, Admin and Aaron for the advice. Will look at Hotwire Hotel List.

I have updated the above list with the possible hotels using Hotwire Hotel List. I hope you don't mind this. I will assess whether to go ahead with Hot.wire or Price.line next. Thanks.
AaronJB Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 I'd agree the 3* McCormick is likely South Loop, but would really recommend against that, especially if you have hotels within your desired budget in the downtown areas. 4* Mag Mile-River North. I'd agree that the Westin is a definite possibility. If this is the Westin, I think that's one of the nicest 4*'s in the city. 2* MMN-Water Tower: The Red Roof would be a possibility. Again, given the star rating and low reviews, really wouldn't even be considering this given some of the other options in your price range. I'd agree on your 3.5* Downtown-MP-GP and Loop 4* guesses, as well, but I'd rather recommend the potential Westin. The Silversmith would be okay, but the potential Westin is cheaper and better-located. The Crowne Plaza Metro is definitely not conveniently located from a tourist perspective in the West Loop area. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
newben Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 I did some checks using the Bidding.Helper and found the following hotel under the Priceline.Express Deals section: North Michigan Ave - River North Area Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher) Business Centre, Fitness Centre Price: $112 per night I checked the Price.line forum and guessed it could be the Doubletree Chicago Magnificent Mile. I went ahead to book the room and it turned out my guess was correct. Thanks to Admin/Aaron for the advice again. Please let me know whether I should also report this in the Priceline section. Also, do Hilton Hhonors gold members enjoy benefits such as complimentary in-room Internet for such bookings? Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you guessed the hotel you correctly and are happy with the results... looks like a very nice deal for a 4* Downtown hotel. No need to re-post in the priceline forum... in the future you can use the ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of the page; this will automatically move the thread to the correct section of the board (if necessary). However, this button can only be used once (and it's only visible to the OP of the thread) and since we just used it to edit your topic title, is the reason you can't see it now. Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the PRICELINE links on the board for your purchase. Enjoy your stay. AaronJB Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Can you confirm that this was a 4* property? This is a nice D'tree property in an excellent location a few blocks from Michigan Ave. Price.line reservations are not eligible for benefits programs like HHonors, but people have had success at some hotels in the past - depends on the hotel and possibly who you talk to. I wouldn't have high expectations going in, but asking about it is worth a try. Enjoy your stay and let us know if you have any questions regarding Chicago.
newben Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 Sorry, did not indicate in the previous post. It is 3.5*.
AaronJB Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Thank you for the follow-up. Enjoy your stay. I'd also suggest asking for a higher floor at this property - more substantial views are an upgrade, but a higher floor does at least offer a better chance of a decent view of the surrounding area. There's a lot of restaurants nearby - let me know likes/dislikes if you have any questions. Also, D'tree cookies at check-in are always a plus.
newben Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks. Will try the cookies, although I am willing to give them up for free in-room internet access. Anyway, regarding restaurants, are there any all-you-can-eat sushi or Korean places nearby?
