travelman Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I had a hard time finding a hotel showing availability now for this weekend & for 2 adults and 2 children. But I reservered the Grand Hyatt NY through Hotels.com. The room is says business plan for $699 a nite, wow! I can cancel the reservation for $25. We will use this reservation if we have to. I think that this hotel is in MTE, I believe. We want to be as close to rockefeller as possible. It seems like MTW would be the correct area to ask for. The Hyatt hotel is rated at 3.5 stars. I would like to stay at that or above.Any thoughts on a bidding strategy?
thereuare Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Would you consider staying in Jersey City (NJ)? The Hyatt appears to be available thru Hotwire for $352/nite and has a PATH (subway) train right in front of the hotel that will have you in NYC in 15 minutes. It's a very nice hotel and the rooms have great views of NYC. It's not the same as staying directly in Manhattan as you lose some of the "nyc feel", but at nearly half the price i think the minor inconvenience this provides vs. staying in NYC is worth the $700 savings (imo). Is the above an option for you? Please also note for future reservations that this board is an affiliate of Hotels.com (as well as most other booking agencies and direct hotels, as seen in our SUPPORT page) and using our links helps keep this board running. Also, if you want to stick with the Hyatt you can book a "business plan" room (not sure of the difference between this and their 'standard' room) directly thru the Hyatt website for $559/nite which is better than your rate above. From our Support page, here is our HYATT.com link should you choose to go this route.Let us know what you decide and/or if we can be of further help. travelman Posted November 13, 2005 Author Report Posted November 13, 2005 I haven't done these boards before, I hope that I am replying correctly. Thanks for the quick response. Looks like I haven't done all the easy due diligence. We really do want to stay in NYC, it's our first trip there. Looks like my options are to book directly on the Hyatt site or bid at Priceline. Do you think that I will have some luck getting a better deal on PL at this point? Do you have a Recommendations in regards to a bidding strategy for MTW?I will definitely link through this site to whereever I book or bid in the future. This site is awesome!
thereuare Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 The problem with using Priceline is that you're looking for quad occupancy and priceline only guarantees double occupancy, and many NYC hotel rooms only have one bed in them. Using Priceline and only getting one room for four people is a risk.Hotwire allows you to search for up to quad occupancy so i would try there, but i would also suggest looking at more than just the MTW area if you're looking for a good deal... NYC is fairly compact and most midtown locations should suit you fine; mass transit and/or taxis are inexpensive and readily accessible. travelman Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks for the information! It seemed very hard to find a room for 4 people, this explains it.
