hellokitty76 Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Hi there, I will be visiting NYC with a friend from May 23, 2014 to May 26, 2014 (3 nights) and would like help with a Priceline bidding strategy. Preferences: 3.5 or 4*Decent walking distance from Grand Central Station (i.e. Midtown East or Times Square? but open to other ideas)Budget $200 - $250 max / per night Any and all ideas would be helpful! Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! I don't think your budget should be an issue but a few questions in order to move forward with a bidding strategy... 1) are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? 2) is the ESB zone acceptable as well or is that too far from Grand Central? (i'm not sure why you need/want to be near Grand Central) Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hellokitty76 Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 Hi thereuare, answers are below: 1) are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?I would probably say that our goal is to get the least expensive 3.5* or better; a trip to NYC is not cheap in general, LOL! 2) is the ESB zone acceptable as well or is that too far from Grand Central? (i'm not sure why you need/want to be near Grand Central)My initial inclination was to stay near Grand Central for convenience, but now that I think of it, it's not really necessary... So the ESB zone is acceptable; I'm open to other areas as well.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 It's up to you how you'd like to play it, but i don't think you're looking at much (if any) price difference between a 3.5* and a 4* hotel for this trip. HOTWIRE currently has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $142/nite with: Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ... my best guess for this property would be The Lexington Hotel New York City Does this work well for your needs or do you want to try bidding on PRICELINE? (unless you're willing to stay downtown i'm not sure if you'll see anything at the 3.5* or higher level for much less) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hellokitty76 Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 I think I'll be happy with the 4* Lexington for that price, but need to double-check with my friend; will use your HOTWIRE link to proceed. Just curious though: Hotwire also has a MTE 4.5* hotel for $204CAD with: Pet friendly Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business CenterSelf service laundry Internet accessAccessibilityAccessible for the deafAccessible path of travelIn-room accessibility What hotel do you think this is?
hellokitty76 Posted April 11, 2014 Author Report Posted April 11, 2014 Hello! I ended up going for the Hotwire deal... You were right, I got the Lexington! The price had slightly increased since a few hours ago... It was $166/night when I booked it. Total for the 3 nights (including fees/taxes) came to $634 CAD. I used your Hotwire link. Thanks for all your help!
