Hi, first time user here and I'm planning a trip to NYC from May 23-26. I am very interested in getting the Sheraton Times Square (4* MTW). I noticed another poster landed this hotel for $140 by bidding on priceline but for dates in June.

Just wondering if you can help me out with this.

I clicked on the PRICELINE link to bid and I attempted the following:

1. $140 for 4* MTW - rejected

2. $156 for 4* MTW, Times Square - rejected

The express deal for what may be the Sheraton is currently going for $256/night. On Hotwire, there is a 4* Midtown Central hotel available for $231/night which may be the Sheraton based on previous posts.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You can't bid on, or target, a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. There is no way to increase your chances of receiving the Sheraton.

Also, rates are date specific, and your dates are during a peak travel season for NYC so it's not surprising that you were not able to replicate the other user's win at lower bid prices.

Are MTW and TS the only zones you're willing to accept? At current rates I think your best chances of landing a 4* hotel would be in the MSG and MTE zones and it will likely take somewhere in the $145-$165 area. However, you should include in a bidding strategy all zones that you're willing to accept as it will increase the number of bidding opportunities you have and will be able to bid in smaller dollar increments.

If you let us know your maximum bid for this stay, as well as all zones (by PRICELINE name) that are acceptable for this trip, we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sorry, I realize I cannot target a specific hotel on priceline, but I definitely would like to find at least a 4* hotel in either midtown west or times square. At this point, my maximum bid would be in the $175-200 range.

I was just trying to see if I could land a place with a lower bid like the one that was successfully won in June. I figured the dates are not that far off but it seems like May is quite popular.

In any case, if you are able to suggest a strategy based on the criteria I've mentioned above, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

When bidding 4* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* TS...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* MTW and TS...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170

If the above is rejected, wait 24 hours and re-try (once again using this PRICELINE link from the board and not the link in any emails that priceline may send informing you that you're eligible to bid again):

Select 4* MTW...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* TS...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 4* MTW and TS...

Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $190

If the above is rejected, HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Times Square zone for $190/nite with:

Free Internet

Smoke Free

Fitness

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

... best guess for this property would be The Row NYC and you can take this offer.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

70% recommended

Amenities:

Free Internet

Smoke-free rooms

Fitness Center

Business Center

Accessible Path of Travel

In-Room Accessibility

Please keep all posts for the same trip in the same thread. Once you purchase a hotel use the ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of the page and the entire thread will be moved to the correct section of the board (if necessary).

I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you also see an INTERNET ACCESS amenity listed (in addition to the FREE INTERNET amenity already listed)? If so, this would match the description of the HOTWIRE hotel i mentioned above below the PRICELINE strategy so my guess for this one would remain The Row NYC.

Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
