Priceline Hotel: 4* Chelsea Dec. 12-15

I'm new to the site.  I've used Priceline in the past and been pleased with my deals, but in fact have no idea whether they were good or not.

 

I'm looking to book in NYC for Dec. 12-15, 2014.  I'd like to stay in or near Chelsea at a 4* or above.  And, obviously, looking for the best price.

 

Any advice on bidding strategies or whether I should wait to bid since this travel is 8 months out.

Traditionally, this period is within one of the worst of the year (around 11/27-12/15 +/-) with holiday shopping and festivities.

 

What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?

I'd love to be able to get the three nights for under $700 total. Not sure if that's realistic for area and star level. I've seen Indigo in Chelsea listed at $258.

HOTWIRE has a 4* in Chelsea listed at $233, but I've never used Hotwire and I'm not sure I have a real sense what hotel that might be. Also not sure if $233 is the best I can hope for.

Quick question before we get started...

Are your dates firm? If you're able to delay your trip by one week, historically it would be substantially cheaper.

Also, 'near Chelsea' is relative, please list, by PRICELINE name, the zones that you're willing to stay in, we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Your $700 all-in budget equates to ~$193/nite bid price, and at current rates i'm guessing this will come up a bit short.

Before suggesting a bidding strategy, is the MSG zone acceptable as well? It is the closest zone to Chelsea and having a 4th zone to bid will substantially increase the number of bidding opportunities you have (although at the moment not sure how much it will help)

I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above?
