Hi guys,

I'm new here so please forgive me if I'm posting inappropriately. Let me knw & i'll take it down.

I'm basically looking for accommodation in NY city. I'll be there bw 3rd may - 07may. My thoughts are as follows:

3.5* upwards - prefer 4*

near convention centre area - as need to walk to javits centre daily.

happy to spend around 1000 mark

tried bidding yesterday upto 200/night in madison square, midtown west, times square - no luck.

need advice about bidding price range that i should try.

any help much appreciated.

cheers

B

Welcome to BetterBidding!

As i'm sure you're finding, rates are high for these dates, is this a large convention?

If sticking with only the zones above, i think you're likely looking at $225-$245 for a 3.5* hotel... $260-$280 for a 3.5* property.

Is there some point where you consider staying at a location away from Javitz and spend the savings on taxi/bus fare? (a viable option if you're only going to/from the convention center once a day... multiple round trips begins to eat up any savings from staying further away)

Thanks for the guidance. I also got the idea that hotels are pretty expensive this time of the year.

I have booked Travel Inn hotel near javits through for 250/night. I think it might also be advertised on hotwire for around 280 in their mystery deals in hell's kitchen/convention centre area.

Many thanks for your help. Keep up the good work of helping others. :)

Travel Inn is a pretty basic property - while fine as a back-up, I do think you could do better via one of the discount services. Please keep us updated with what you decide and I'd continue to keep an eye o the discount services.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

At current rates you can certainly do better than your back-up at the Travel Inn, but it's a question of if you're ready to lock-in a non-refundable reservation for this trip.

Thanks guys.

I chose Travel Inn based on trip advisor reviews which sounded reasonable and as it is very close to javits I thought what the heck. At the end of the day I will probably be out for most of the day attending my conference and be in for a sleep only. I'm not worried about locking in my reservation but when I checked there just was not anything coming up on priceline in my zones. I would like to stick to walkable distance from javits as might make few trips through the day at times. Given your suggestions I'll have another go at priceline soon and let you know how I go.

I have another request if someone can help me there - after 7th of may my friends are going to join me in NY for few days before we fly out on 11th May. I need to book a serviced apartment style accommodation for 5adults + 2children. Any guidance around where is the best place to look for these kind of places? Also if you guys can point me towards what will be the best area to stay, from where most common NY attractions could be explored in 3-4days would be great as well.

Cheers!

With space at a premium most NYC apartments are not designed for 7 people... i would sooner suggest you look for multiple hotel rooms (or if you like the idea of an apartment rental then multiple apartments) as i think accommodations for 7 people in one room/apartment will be difficult.

Most midtown locations, with access to the subway, work fine and prove to be convenient for more visitors to the city.

Thanks guys for all your advice. I found Manhattan at times square for 230+tax on my conference website so going with that as travel inn's review were not as great.

Also for family stay found an apartment just north of central park.

Thanks again guys.
