stephaniezhaoxt Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Hello, I would appreciate your assistance to bid for a hotel purchase in New York from May 26-29.It is worth mentioning here that i am totally new to this and never used bidding system before. I only used secret deal function of Hotwire before. Because my parents will have the trip with me together, I prefer areas on Mahanttan Island. And a 3 1/2 OR 4 star hotel would be perfect to me specially i don't want to pay no more than US$ 120 all in per night. Is there a chance to make a good deal?Thank you so much in advance! Thanks again,Stephanie
AaronJB Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please specify *which* Price.line zones would be acceptable. Additionally, $120 "all-in" is unfortunately not going to be realistic for these date/s. $120 "all-in" is generally seen in NYC only during the slowest periods (January/Feb.) Also, when using Price.line (especially in NYC) bidding, you are only guaranteed 1 bed/double occupancy. It is likely you would get 1 bed for the three of you if you bid. With Hot.wire, you can search for the amount of people in the party. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
stephaniezhaoxt Posted April 3, 2014 Author Report Posted April 3, 2014 Hello Aaron, Thank you for help. I prefer 3*, 3.5* and 4* hotels in the following areas: MTW,TS,ESB,MSG,CPS, CHELSEA, UES, UWS. Do you think will $135 per room per night work? I don't have any specific order for areas, so what should be the winning strategy you think? Thanks in advance! Thanks, Stephanie
thereuare Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Because my parents will have the trip with me together...Are you looking for only one room for triple occupancy OR are you looking for more than one room? If only one room note the comments above that in NYC booking a room that is only guaranteed for double occupancy is considered a risk given the high percentage of rooms that only have one bed and that rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade and can cost more than rooms with only one bed. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, you can still try searching HOTWIRE for triple occupancy, but it is likely that the room rate will increase given that triple occupancy in NYC often costs more than double occupancy. stephaniezhaoxt Posted April 7, 2014 Author Report Posted April 7, 2014 Thank you for the reminder. I am looking for two rooms for four people. So I still want to try Priceline. Could you please give me some bidding advice or strategy I should use? Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 Two points: 1) the CPS zone has the Hudson hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms... would this be acceptable? 2) $135 all-in is not likely realistic (and to avoid any confusion please post your maximum budget in terms of bid price) although any strategy we suggest will start lower than this just in case something is available Currently what appears to be the best offer within your parameters is a 4* hotel on HOTWIRE for $140/nite in the MTE zone with: Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ... best guess for this property would be the Hilton Manhattan East I would bid on PRICELINE up to $143/nite which would put you below the all-in price of the $140 HOTWIRE hotel above... if $143 is rejected by PRICELINE then take the HOTWIRE offer. The question(s) are: Knowing this rate for a 4* hotel, do you want to bid for a 4* up to $143/nite OR try for a lower rated hotel in hopes of a lower price (which may not be possible, but even if it is, i don't think it would be cheaper by much). If you first want to try for a 4* hotel, if that is rejected do you then: 1) try a lower star rating on PRICELINE up to the same maximum bid 2) take the HOTWIRE offer Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.
