mmond4 Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Hi, I am looking for a hotel in London for 3 nights (4/9-4/12), and would appreciate some help with bidding strategy. In particular I'm looking at the following regions in order of preference:Kensington - Earl's CourtBloomsbury - Marble ArchMax bid I'm considering: $140
yellowdog Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! With current rates would a 5* not be within your budget. Would you like to raise your budget for a 5* or stick with max $140 for a 4*? Let us know and we'll go from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. Yellowdog.
mmond4 Posted March 30, 2014 Author Report Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks for the quick response. I'd be willing to bid up to $180 for a 5-star, but if that's still out of budget, I'd like to stick to max $140 for a 4-star.
thereuare Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 I think a 5* hotel is still out of your budget, but if you want to give it a try anyway... When bidding 5* in London you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 5* Kennsington... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 5* Bloomsbury... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 5* Kennsington and Bloomsbury... Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $178, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $180 If the above is rejected close the browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Kennsington... Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Bloomsbury... Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Kennsington and Bloomsbury... Bid $140 If the above is rejected, PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the Kensington-Earls Court zone, no amenities shown, but it does have an 8.0/10.0 user review by previous PRICELINE guests which is pretty good. The price is $150/nite but the discount link and code in my signature will given an extra 5% OFF bringing this rate down to $143/nite and i would take that if your 4* bidding above fails. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Any questions feel free to ask. Good luck and let us know how it goes. mmond4 Posted March 30, 2014 Author Report Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks for the help. I used these 4 re-bid zones, but was rejected upto $180: Hammersmith, Notting Hill-Bayswater, East London Is is possible to narrow down what hotels the 4* Express deal @$150 could be ? The only one I can find with a similar rating is the Best Western Cromwell, but wasn't sure if there are others. Also, I had a general question around bidding - would bidding higher for a 4* (closer to Express deal price of $143) improve the chances of getting a "better" 4* hotel?
AaronJB Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Trying to bid higher than you likely need to to get a "better" hotel will very likely result in overbidding for a hotel you would have gotten lower anyway/overbidding, so I wouldn't recommend it. Please confirm the amenities that are showing with the 4* listing and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the listing. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

mmond4 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Report Posted March 31, 2014 I went through the priceline express deals link on this thread again, but there are no amenities listed for the $150/night hotel in Kensington. The only info provided is the review score of 8.0. Some other properties show Free Internet, so am guessing this is one that doesn't offer this. Can someone help ID this? Most of the 4* hotels in the area seem good, but the Hilton London Kensington doesn't appear to have a great location.
thereuare Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Unfortunately with the PRICELINE EXPRESS property showing no amenities (doesn't mean that the hotel doesn't offer any amenities as some hotels will not show some/all of the amenities they offer) and no additional clues provided by PRICELINE, i don't have any insight into this PRICELINE EXPRESS property... the Hilton Kensington does currently have an 8.0/10.0 user review rating from PRICELINE, so this would certain be a possibility for this PRICELINE EXPRESS (just as it would be when naming your own price, and of course there are likely other 4* hotels in the zone with an 8.0/10.0 user review rating or higher) Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. mmond4 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Report Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks, I also tried the HOTWIRE link on this thread to see if I could get a property that can be ID'd. I got $184 for a 4* hot-rate boutique hotel. amenities below : Free Internet Boutique Hotel Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Hotwire customer reviews: 100%recommended (9 total reviews) Any idea which one this could be?
thereuare Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Is the HOTWIRE property above in the Kensington-Earls Court zone? If you search using our BiddingHelper.com and the EASY VIEW tab, do you see more amenities than above, as this is what i'm currently seeing for the $184/nite offer in this zone: Free Internet Boutique Fitness Restaurant Hi-Speed Internet If this is the amenity set you're seeing, it has not yet been reported to the board and is likely a new property offered by HOTWIRE, given there are only 9 reviews reported by previous users. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Let us know what you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. mmond4 Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 Thanks for all the help. Decided location was very important for such a short trip, so I went with PRICELINE retail. Got what seemed like a decent deal at Rydges Kensington for $186/night. Property and location were great, and we had a fantastic trip!
thereuare Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you found something that worked well for your plans and budget and you had a great trip.
