SunnyDBCA Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I've found a Priceline Express Deal on a 4* Times Square hotel July 6-10 for $174 per night. It is $811.48 total for the four nights using the SPRING14 code. I see these hotels listed in the Priceline Express Deals - Times Square post:4.5* Intercontinental4* Doubletree4* Marriott Marquis4* Westin3* Best Western3* Paramount Are the two three star hotels in this list included as a 4* in this Express Deal? The price is fantastic for the 4* hotels listed. How much better could I do by bidding? Thanks, Martin
thereuare Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 If i'm understanding your question correctly, the 4* PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel you're currently seeing would not be one of the 3* hotels in the hotel list unless one of the 3* hotels has been upgraded since last being reported to the board... nor would it be one of the 4.5* hotels unless one of those properties has been downgraded since last reported to the board (see the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List... it could also be a new hotel not yet reported to the board thru PRICELINE EXPRESS). If you want to move forward by bidding on PRICELINE, is this the only zone you're willing to accept? What would be your maximum bid before taking the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer? SunnyDBCA Posted March 27, 2014 Author Report Posted March 27, 2014 Good to know on the star levels... I want to be in Times Square. It will be my wife and 11 year old son's first visit to NYC and I want them to get the whole "city that never sleeps" vibe. I guess I'd be willing to go to $150 per night before I'd just take the Express Deal. Thanks, Martin Love this website by the way... :)
thereuare Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Thanks for the compliments on the site... we're glad to hear you're enjoying it and finding the information useful. Note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed (which is a high probability in NYC as space is at a premium, on the whole rooms are smaller than elsewhere in the country, and hotels have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed... often rooms with two beds are considered to be an upgrade). While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) Please confirm how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. SunnyDBCA Posted March 28, 2014 Author Report Posted March 28, 2014 I've never had a problem with rooms through Priceline. If we get a single bed our son sleeps on the sofa. That said I have never tried Hotwire. I'll post results of a Hotwire search in the Hotwire forum to try and identify the hotels... Thanks, Martin

thereuare Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 I've never had a problem with rooms through Priceline.More than double occupancy in always a calculated risk with PRICELINE. In some areas, such as Orlando where hotels are used to accommodating families and have a high percentage of rooms with more than one bed, the risk is substantially lower... in NYC, where rooms are notoriously small and a high percentage of rooms only have one bed, the risk is substantially greater. If we get a single bed our son sleeps on the sofa.Assuming the hotel has a sofa. That said I have never tried Hotwire. I'll post results of a Hotwire search in the Hotwire forum to try and identify the hotels...Please keep all posts for this stay in this thread. Once you win a hotel using the ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of the board and the thread will automatically be moved to the correct section of the board (if necessary) Best guess/comments for the HOTWIRE hotels above: 4.5* $277 - InterContinental Times Square 4* $173 - Crowne Plaza Hotel Manhattan or Millennium Broadway... but i can't confirm any further as i'm not seeing this property on my own search for your dates. Are you including 2adults/1child in your search? 4* $257 - possibly The Muse or Hotel Mela, but again, i'm not seeing this property offered when searching for your dates and 2adults/1child Given your previous budget of $150/nite are you willing to spend $250 thru HOTWIRE (to ensure triple occupancy)?
