Noodle77 Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Departing from Pier 88 in NYC (next to Intrepid Museum) on a cruise on 4/27 and would like to spend the night before in NYC. I've never used Priceline bidding before but am very curious what I might be able to get. I'm hoping for a 3.5 or 4-star hotel between $150 and $200 in MSG, MW or HK. Other options might be TS, Chelsea or CPS. Could you please recommend a bidding strategy for a newbie? Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* or is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Did you want to first bid up to your maximum for your preferred 3 zones (MSG, MW or HK) or is your goal the least expensive in any of your acceptable 6 zones? I'll also point out that PRICELINE EXPRESS has this 4* MSG HOTEL (check your dates on the landing page) for $191/nite, but using the discount link and code in my signature gives an extra 5% OFF and brings this down to $181/nite and right near the middle of your budget, should this be of any interest. (my guess for this property would be the Wyndham New Yorker) Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Noodle77 Posted March 26, 2014 Author Report Posted March 26, 2014 Since it's just one night, I think I'm more interested in getting the least expensive 3.5* or better, provided the location is decent. I'd like to try MSG and MW first, then the other four zones (HK, CPS, TS or Chelsea). I'll be traveling alone, and do want to end up in a safe area where I could walk and grab dinner and breakfast...sounds like HK might not be the greatest option. I did see the Priceline.Express deal for MSG, which is a good option, but would prefer to try bidding first. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 So to begin try bidding on a 3.5* or better in either MSG or MTW... should we cap your maximum bid at $181/nite given the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal? If so, i would try the following: Select 3.5* MSG... Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTW... Bid $160, if rejected add MSG... Bid $165 If the above is rejected, do you then want to try again in 24 hours for just these two zones and increase your bid OR do you want to start to include the other acceptable zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Noodle77 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Report Posted March 27, 2014 Started at $160 for 3.5* MW or MSG. Added in HK, Chelsea, CPS, TS. No dice. Same at $165 and $170. I decided I would go up $5 before taking the Priceline Express Deal you mentioned earlier. Looking at the map, I realized that MW and ESB really weren't that much further from the pier so threw those into the mix at $175. I probably should have gone back to my starting price for those two zones, but lucked out and got bumped to a 4*!! Works for me. Thanks for the advice!
