rpmanda Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Hi,This is my first topic here, could not find any info on this one. All help is appreciated!5* Upper East SideDates: 05/13/14 thru 05/21/14Price: $393 (previously $780)Amenities: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Spa Services, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in showerThanks.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links. If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? This is the full amenity set i'm seeing for the 5* hotel in this zone when searching for your dates: Pet Friendly Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower I'm not sure of this property, but the The Pierre Taj Hotel and the Hotel Plaza Athenee would be at least two likely candidates among the possibilities. Are you willing to spend $400/nite for a room for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rpmanda Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 Thanks for the response! I see the same set so amenities thru Bidding.Helper. My preference would be to spend much less than that however prices are sky-high for the dates I need which are not flexible. Priceline.Express deals are pretty much with similar prices for 4* and 5* hotels. What would be your suggestion? Use the bidding system in Price.line?
thereuare Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Seasonally this is an expensive time of year, but if you don't need a 5* hotel and/or are willing to accept other zones (UES isn't even usually considered to be that well located for the average tourist), you should still be able to get something nice/acceptable for substantially less. What is the purpose of this stay... a 'tourist' in NYC, business in the UES zone, etc? Do you need a 5* property for this trip? rpmanda Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 Thanks for the attention and personalized response on this matter. Myself and my fiancée are frequent travelers doing it together only on leisure. This will be a special trip for us, first time she will be in the USA and most likely our last big adventure before our wedding. As part of this trip she will be very likely acquiring her wedding dress thus I really wanted it to be special end to end.Having been multiple times in NYC over the last couple years I feel UES is a neighborhood seen worldwide as an interesting place to live in NYC while not too far of the main tourist destinations (including all pros and cons of it). All suggestions are more then welcome.
thereuare Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 The issue with the UES is that there is only one subway line (4-5-6 trains, the Green line) which while in Manhattan stays on the east side... as a result, anything you do that in midtown or south, unless it is on the east side, will likely require a connection/transfer. So while not terrible, after a few days you may become like the rest of the NYers who lean over the side of the platform looking to see just how far away the next train is... ideally you want more subway options nearby to make it more convenient to get around. However, ultimately it's your stay, and you know your needs best, so let us know your thoughts (and target budget) and we'll advise accordingly.
