HiThere Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I was wondering if anyone could help me- I want to stay in or around NYC for a couple of nights. Probably 3*+ (taking 2 small boys with me). Don't really care where we stay just want to show them the city. Any ideas for bidding/locations?
thereuare Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (this is especially true in NYC where space it at a premium, rooms are smaller then elsewhere in the country, a higher percentage of rooms only have one bed in them, and at some hotels rooms with two beds is considered an upgrade and cost more). Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) Let us know your thoughts on the occupancy issue, as well as your expected budget per nite for this trip, and we will advise accordingly. HiThere Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Yes it is a risk I am willing to accept. I can fit one of my kids in a duffle bag. They would love to see Statue of Liberty, Broadway, etc... I just don't know where to start.
AaronJB Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 This period is not the slowest time of the year (Jan/Feb), but it's right on the border before prices really start ramping up later in March and into April. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
HiThere Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Assuming I can find something under $100 per night? I guess what I am trying to determine is where I can get good value. A 3* for $100 in Manhattan? 3* for $75 in Brooklyn?
thereuare Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 We will suggest a strategy for whatever limit you'd like, but I think you would substantially increase your chances if you could increase your budget for a 3* hotel in Manhattan to the $105-$115 area (we will of course start lower, so no fear of overbidding)... at this point in time Brooklyn looks like it will not necessarily offer a better value for these dates. If you'd like to first try for a Manhattan hotel, please confirm which zone(s) you're willing to accept (by PRICELINE name) and confirm if you're willing/able to increase your maximum bid a bit and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.
