sloblack Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 I have never purchased through Price.line and need some help putting together a reasonable bid. Dates are 3/13 - 3/17. I need to be in the Strip North area as my friends are staying at the Pallazzo and that is where we will spend most of our time. (I want to avoid paying for taxis.) I'm looking for 4* hotel which would be Treasure Island or the Mirage. I'm seeing people get these for $50. My $50 bid was rejected. Am I being unrealistic in my bid for 4 nights that include a weekend? I appreciate any advice you all can give to this newbie. And yes, I used the link provided by this site to enter Price.line.
yellowdog Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! With current rates would my guess be that you're looking around $100/night for your dates. The lower rates are mostly seen on weekdays. Would you like to raise your budget or bid on a lower rated hotel? Let us know your thoughts and we'll go from there. Thanx for using boards PRICELINE links! Yellowdog.
sloblack Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 I can raise my bid if that is what it takes. When you say $100 per night, is that before or after taxes (12%) and resort fees ($25 per night)? I can currently get 4 nights at Treasure Island for $401.13 (Plus tax and resort fee) using a discount code on their site. This will also include two trips to the buffet. If the $100 suggested bid includes either tax or resort fee, I will go that route. Again, thanks for your advice as I am new to all of this.
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 I'd also agree you're probably looking in the neighborhood of $100 for these date/s for a 4* (pre-tax/fees), although it's worth starting at $80 and working higher by $5's if you want to see if a hotel is willing to accept lower than expected, given the rates I'm seeing. Resort fees aren't figured into the total as they are paid at check-in. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
sloblack Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 I tried $80 and was unsuccessful. I then expanded to include 3.5* and tried $85 (According to your site, there are no 3.5* hotels in North Strip. That too was unsuccessful. I'll try $90 and $95 tomorrow. If those don't work, I will probably use the discount code because it includes 2 free trips to the buffet.
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 As noted at the top of the lists, do not use the lists for re-bidding. Those lists provide the hotels that have been reported to the board - when bidding if you are able to select a star rating in a zone, there are hotels at that star rating in that zone that could be won. You can read more on re-bidding here: re-bidding Please let us know if you have any questions before bidding. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
