a friend is going to a convention at the Miami Beach Convention Center and wanted something within walkin distance but didn't really care about star level. Started at 2.5* and $95 and received a counter-offer of $119. Rejected and added free rebid of North Miami and $99 and won. 2 Blocks away and best available price is $185 at hotels site.

This is something I have a question about. On priceline how do you make sure you are close to the Convention Center? I want to do the same thing but you can only select South Beach or Miami Beach area... which means I could be over a mile away from the Convention Center if I win the bid??

The short answer is: "You can't"

The longer answer is: Priceline is designed for users that are flexible in their plans. If you need to be at a specific property or in a specific area of a given zone (and the zone is too large) than priceline may not be the best option for you.

However, many are willing to 'compromise' a bit when considering the savings involved. If you can save $100 a nite but potentially be a mile from your desired location (a $5 cab ride?) than that is a trade-off you have to decide if is worthwhile or not.

Another option is Hotwire where you may pay a bit more than Hotwire, but it gives you a little more control over taking an educated guess as to the property you'll receive.
