Hi

I would appreciate your assistance to bid for a hotel purchase in New York from May 26-30.

it is worth mentioning here that i am way new to all this and never used bidding system for such.

I would prefer areas close to subway so that it eases my transportation withing NY.

Guess a 3 1/2 OR 4 star hotel would be perfect to me specially i don't want to pay no more than US$ 120 all in per nite.

there may be amendment to dates but at the end they will be in the same boundaries from May 24 till May 30.

is there a chance to make a good deal?

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Unfortunately you're traveling to NYC during an expensive time of year (in an already expensive city) and at current rates you're not likely going t be success for a 3.5* or better hotel in Manhattan at $120 all-in... you're more realistically looking at a bid price of $140-$160 to be successful for these dates. We can suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like, but i'd be very surprised if anything near a $100 bid price is successful.

If you use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and search within 1 mile of 'Times Square New York City'... then filter to show only the 3.5* and higher rated hotels, what is the best price you're able to find for an acceptable 3.5* or better hotel?

Thanks for your reply but i would like to add that i am open for any suggestions within Manhattan and do you think a 3 star hotel would be good in NY specially all i need is a nice, CLEAN & SAFE hotel.will spend my days for fun and shopping and i will also need to go to Woodbury commons shopping center.

is there any chance within my mentioned price before we can proceed for a winning strategy?

thanks

...all i need is a nice, CLEAN & SAFE hotel.
While all hotels should be clean and safe, the risks that you'll be disappointed go up as the star rating goes down. We usually recommend sticking with the higher star rated hotels in NYC as the quality can differ so much even within the same star rating... you could find a hotel that works great for your needs, or you could land in something that you regret returning to the hotel each evening.

With the above noted, a 3* should be 'ok', but i still don't think your budget will be enough at $100 all-in.. at 3* or better you're likely looking in the $130-$150 bid price to be successful. We would of course start lower, but i think that is a more realistic range than being accepted at a $100 bid price.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Good evening thereuare

thanks for your reply.

i would go for your advice and start looking between 3 1/2* & 4*.

so what do u think? what star level should we start up with? i can raise my budget to be US$ 140-150.

But i don't know what are the good areas?

appreciating your patience.

Thanks

I would start with a 4* up to $150, if that is rejected we can re-visit the conversation if you want to lower to 3.5*, raise your budget, or wait it out and hope for lower prices in the weeks ahead.

To get started with a strategy, please confirm which zone(s) are acceptable. For most users, MTW, TS, ESG, and MSG are acceptable and all well located with good subway access. The following can also be considered based upon your needs:

MTE - most hotels are well located, but a few can be up to a 10+ minute walk to the subway (not as much of a problem in May as opposed to January/February

CPS - centrally located but has the Hudson Hotel with notoriously small rooms

Chelsea - subways can be up to 10+ minutes away, but a 'hot' area right now with lots of bars, restaurants, cafes, etc.

Please confirm which zones you'd like to try for first and we'll take it from there.

If you've already read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and are still confused, try the following:

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter New Orleans and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.

hi, just went through price line and i found the following zones with maximum star rating:

  1. Brooklyn 4*
  2. Central Park 5*
  3. Chelsea 4.5*
  4. DownTown 5*
  5. Empire State 5*
  6. Hell's Kitchen 4*
  7. Long Island City 3.5*
  8. Lower East Side 4*
  9. Madison Garden 4*
  10. Midtown East 5*
  11. Midtown West 4.5*
  12. Morning Side - Harlem 3.5*
  13. Soho 5*
  14. Times Square 5*
  15. Upper East Side 5*
  16. Upper West Side 4*

So taking two zones above to use as an example:

Midtown East 5*

Long Island City 3.5*

If you were to include both MTE and LIC in your bidding and select a minimum 4* hotel, if you were successful, do you see how the hotel you won would have to be in the MTE zone (since the LIC zone has not hotels that meet the minimum 4* threshold that you selected for your bidding).

Does that make it clearer? Are you now able to confirm your TWO re-bid zones?

Yes you can still use the same strategy but always double-check your zones before each bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since previously checking.

Yes, if bidding 4* those are the two zones you can use... but always double check just before bidding to make sure nothing has changed since you last looked.

Good luck!

No problem!

Are you going to book the HOTWIRE hotel? (Hotels/prices offered now may not be the ones available once you're ready to commit.) Or are you going to keep bidding on PRICELINE?

Hi;

Well i am still sticking to Priceline bidding and let the Hotwire secret deals as a further stage in case i couldn't make it to win a good bidding according to my budget which is $ 150 excluding taxes at those given areas: MTW, MSG, ESB, Downtown, MTE, Chelsea & Times Square.

Now i am wondering is the above mentioned startegy can still be applied specially i tried just a part of it till i reached $ 130 with no success.

i am willing to carry on.

i am open for any more suggestions and advises. your feedback is very highly appreciated.

Thanks
