karln2003 Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 No luck yet on Priceline for one night stay in Downtown Austin for this weekend.2 adults, 1 night4 star: starting bid at 65 and went up to 1003.5 star and up: started at 50 and ended at 903 star and up: started at 65 and ended at 100I would like to stay below $125 including taxes since I found a decent deal at the Wyndham Garden for that price. The downside for the Wyndham is distance since a taxi will be required and my estimates have put it around $15 each way.I am willing to be patient and wait a few more days if that might help. In my search of the forums it seems several people have had success with bids lower than my final bids.
AaronJB Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 There has to be something going on in downtown Austin for these date/s - rates are definitely on the high side. Unfortunately, at this point - and this is pretty much last-minute - I think a 4* will take over $150 and a 3* is going to take more towards the $115-125 area and may require a bit more than that. Are any areas outside downtown acceptable?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

karln2003 Posted February 17, 2014 Author Report Posted February 17, 2014 Ok read the messages and clicked the links.. didn't click the links on my original search since I found this place after I started. I will be sure to click them when I make my purchase as well and will report back here on my results. As for events, I checked a few websites and didn't see anything major. There is a regional science fair taking place for grade school kids but I didn't think that would be large enough to have this effect on rates (compared to SXSW music festivals and etc.)Downtown is really the only ideal location since our main attraction is 6th street on Friday night and trying to drive from there late at night is a DWI waiting to happen. I considered areas outside of Downtown, but the added cost of a taxi to and from would bring the total price closer to what I would pay downtown so downtown is the target.Would you recommend I try again over the next couple days with the technique to see if I can get lucky on a rate closer to my target or just take the plunge and get a 3* for around 115-125? Not sure how these things change as they get closer to the date (I understand they can be unpredictable) but I was thinking since it is one night only I might get lucky later in the week?

I would keep bidding. No one can say if the rates will come down or up between now and your stay.Let us know how we can help you further with your stay.Thanx for using boards PRICELINE links!Yellowdog.
