Jose Buleo Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Hello,I'm going to San Francisco for four days. I'm checking the prices of hotels around Union Square and they're really expensive. The cheapest thing I could find on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals was $200 for a 3* on USW. I didn't want to pay more than $130 for a 3* on either USW or USE. The cheapest hotel on HOTWIRE costs $172. It's on Nob Hill - Chinatown (I'd be willing to bid for the 4 areas Union Square is divided on HOTWIRE).Is it peak season in San Francisco? I wouldn't mind lowering the category of the hotel rather than spending more money but most 2* hotels have terrible ratings on Tripadvisor.Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 There are two conferences taking place in San Francsico over your dates, one for 8K attendees and one for 5K attendees, the two combined may be having an effect on hotel rates for these dates. It's not clear from your post above how you'd like to proceed... with HOTWIRE there is no bidding, you either accept the price listed or not. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jose Buleo Posted February 15, 2014 Author Report Posted February 15, 2014 Hi again, I'm new to this whole world of bidding but I know I can't bid on HOTWIRE. I was just using the data to figure out what the average prices are.As I explained before, I'd like to bid on PRICELINE up to a maximum of $130 for the Union Square areas (both East and West) and I'd be interested in a 3* hotel. Could you help me, please?
thereuare Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 At current rates i don't think your $130 budget will be enough for a 3* hotel, but if you want to give it a try...When bidding 3* in the San Francisco area you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* USE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* USW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3* USE and USW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Jose Buleo Posted February 18, 2014 Author Report Posted February 18, 2014 I haven't started bidding yet. I'm going to give it some time and see if the prices on Priceline Express Deals or Hotwire are a bit lower and then see what I decide. I've got a backup plan at $100 per night with free cancelation. It's a well situated 2* hotel with private bathroom. My question is... What are the odds of bidding for a 2* hotel and getting a room with shared bathroom? Would it be specified anywhere? I'm not sure yet what to do.As soon as I do anything, I'll post it here. Thanks again for your valuable help.
thereuare Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 All 'opaque' PRICELINE and HOTWIRE reservations (unless otherwise specified) are for rooms with private bathrooms. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jose Buleo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 Hi again, I'm still checking both Hot.wire and Price.line and I'm afraid I'll have to go down to 2* because all the 3* and above are far too expensive. I'm seeing a 2* hotel on Hot.wire (Nob Hill - Chinatown area) for $95 (it was around $88 yesterday). The amenities are Free Internet, Business Center, Internet access, Tennis Nearby. There's also another 2* hotel on Priceline.express deals (Union Square East - Nob Hill) for $87 with free internet and bed choice available. I could get two twin beds, which I prefer. Any idea which these two hotels may be?
AaronJB Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 The Hot.wire listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'd guess it may be a new amenity set for the Grant Plaza. The Hot.wire listing does show a mixed tripadvisor review (3/5) on the detail page. Unfortunately, it's difficult to begin to really narrow down much for the Price.line Express listing, with only one amenity. I am a little concerned that it doesn't show a guest rating, which makes me wonder if it may be one of the lower-rated 2*'s in the zone. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
