scao Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Hi there,I'm a long-time lurker but first-time user of this forum and hoping to get some advice about booking a hotel in NYC in March. My boyfriend and I want to go to NYC from March 9, 2014 to March 14, 2014. I've been there previously and stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel that a friend pricelined and I loved it - the MTE location was very conveniently close to the subway, shops, etc. For this coming trip, I've been reading about the re-bidding process and would like to set my star limit at 4. My top 4 locations are 1) MTE, 2) MTW, 3) EBS, and 4) TS. At 4*, I know of the 2 re-bidding zones that are available to me. I also really loved the SoHo area when I was in NYC last but I'm not sure from looking at the Priceline map how convenient it will be for walking to the subway.I need some advice about what price to start the bidding at. We are both students and would like to be as budget-friendly as possible, but I'd like to take advantage of the re-bid which I why I chose 4*. I'd love for you guys to suggest a strategy for me. I'd like to cap the budget at $140, but please do let me know if this is unrealistic. I also appreciate any advice on best areas for value. Thanks so much!

scao Posted February 15, 2014 Author Report Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks for the suggestion!Just out of curiosity, if I wanted to go down to 3.5* in the same areas, what should I do to ensure a successful bid (since I don't have 2 re-bid zones to play with)?
thereuare Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 If you want to lower your star level to the 3.5* level you would either need to start at a higher star level, make larger bid increments, or bid over a few days. What would be the rationale of lowering your star rating... in hope of a lower price? If you're trying to save money why not look at the 4* PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel in the MSG zone:Free Internet in room Pets Allowed Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center It's priced at $135/nite, but using the discount link and code in my signature takes 10% off (expires Sun at midnite EST), bringing this 4* hotel down to $120/nite.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. scao Posted February 16, 2014 Author Report Posted February 16, 2014 I don't mind doing any of the things that you suggested and yes, I'd like to save some more money if I can, maybe cap it at $120 per night. Can you give me a play by play of what I should do?Also I think the trip is still far away enough that I don't need to try the express deals just yet. But I'll keep an eye on them too. Thanks so much.
thereuare Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 If you're willing to include the MSG zone in your bidding, as well as the previously bid zones above, i would bid as follows:Select 4* MTE, TS, MSG...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, MSG...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS, MSG, MTE, MTW...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS, MSG, MTE, ESB...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, TS, MSG...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120If the above is rejected i would take the $135/nite MSG property on PRICELINE EXPRESS, using the link and code in my signature, bringing the room down to the equivalent of the $120 bid above. Also I think the trip is still far away enough that I don't need to try the express deals just yet.If your $120 bid above is rejected, there would be no reason not to take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer... it would be equivalent to the maximum bid above, and if the bidding above failed, it would reinforce that this would be very good deal at this point in time. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. scao Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Thanks for your suggestions but still no takers unfortunately. At this point should I just opt for a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal?
thereuare Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Which PRICELINE EXPRESS deal... the previous 4* MSG property that was reduced to $120 is no longer available. scao Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 I realize now that was a good deal. Currently the best PRICELINE EXPRESS deal I see is a MTW 3* for $129 with free internet, business center, pets and fitness center. Can you help me ID this hotel? Thanks.
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 Are you still seeing this listing? I'm not seeing it in MTE when searching for these date/s this evening. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
scao Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 Sorry, I just edited my post - I meant MTW
thereuare Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 I see the MTW offer but when i click on it i get a message that the offer is no longer available... are you still seeing this one on your own PRICELINE EXPRESS search, and if so, are you able to click on it and see more details? (or like me do you then get a message that it's no longer available) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. scao Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 3* hotel in lower east side for $117 per night from March 10-17. Amenities include: free internet in public areas, fitness center, business center, restaurant. Guest rating is 8/10. Thank you!
AaronJB Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Please keep all posts for this stay within this thread - thanks. Are you changing date/s for your stay in your prior Priceline NYC thread or is this for an additional room? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
scao Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 Yes the dates have changed because I couldn't get plane tickets for the original dates.
thereuare Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 We have merged your threads... please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. For the 3* MTW property, i'm once again seeing this property offered but getting the 'no longer available' message when clicking thru. For the 3* LES hotel, my guess here would be the Holiday Inn NYC - Lower East Side. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
scao Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 I'm still able to click through and see the MTW deal. Is there any way 1) I can upload a screenshot or 2) you can hazard a guess going off the information I gave you? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 I'm seeing the same - not able to be purchased. I'd guess Courtyard Central Park or Residence Inn Central Park. It could absolutely be something else, as well, but of those two I'd say the Courtyard would be more likely. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
scao Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks for your input - I really appreciate you guys being patient with me. I think I'm actually ready to pull the trigger on a 3* Soho/Tribeca hotel that's just come up for $119/night: wifi, restaurant, business and fitness center. I just wanted to confirm that this is the Holiday Inn Soho. Thanks
AaronJB Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 I'd guess the HI Soho. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
scao Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 I got the hotel - it was the Holiday Inn Soho. Thanks so much for all your help everyone1
