Michelleswt Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I need help with my priceline bidding. I'm going to chicago , May 5 - 9th. I would like a 4.5 hotel and really don't want to pay more then 125 a night. I show there is only one other zone that has a 4.5 hotel and that is ohare. So do I use all other zones as my rebid. Also, what should I start out with as a bid. I would appreciate any help.
AaronJB Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, this is a busier time of year with nicer weather and Spring events (baseball, etc) so prices are higher. For 4.5*, unfortunately I don't think $125 is going to be enough - I think you are looking at more along the lines of $165-185. A 4* is possible under your desired budget in the River North-NMA area, but if so, probably towards the high end of your budget. Let us know if a 4* is of interest and we would be happy to suggest how to proceed.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Michelleswt Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 I don't mind the 4 star, however it seems a lot of people get the hotel Felix and many people seem to dislike it. If you have some strategies that could help I would greatly appreciate it.
thereuare Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the NMA-River North zone for $142/nite with:Free Internet in public areas Pets Allowed Restaurant Fitness Center The Milenorth would be my guess for this one, but i'm not certain as these amenities are fairly common for a city hotel. However, this PRICELINE EXPRESS property does show a minimum 8.0/10.0 user review rating, where as The Felix is currently showing a 6.8 user review rating, so you can 'safely' purchase this one and be assured that it won't be the Felix.Do you want to go for this PRICELINE EXPRESS offer a little more than your budget, try bidding on PRICELINE for any 4* or better hotel in the zone, or consider raising your budget for a 4.5* property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we will take it from there. AaronJB Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Congrats on your success. :)I actually think this is a terrific deal for this property, which is in a fantastic location right behind Water Tower and the Hancock Tower. Please let us know if you have any city questions. I'm seeing mostly very good reviews on tripadvisor. Overall though, great deal for a superb location during a busy period.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
Michelleswt Posted February 13, 2014 Author Report Posted February 13, 2014 Haven't planned out my sight seeing yet. I do want to go to a cubs game, do you know if there is transportation near my hotel to get to wrigley field? Thanks for your input.
AaronJB Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 It's actually quite easy to get to Wrigley. From your hotel, you can walk SW about 5-7 minutes to the corner of Chicago and State. There is a Red Line subway station at that corner, then take the Red Line Northbound to Addison. At Addison, Wrigley's right there. I would recommend taking the train EARLY - I'd get there an hour or so before the game to avoid the crowds who will also be using the subway as it's really the best and main way to get from downtown to Wrigley. Even if you get there over an hour in advance, there are a lot of restaurants, bars and stores nearby to browse around. Please let us know if you have any other city questions, as well.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Michelleswt Posted February 14, 2014 Author Report Posted February 14, 2014 Thanks so much? Sounds easy enough!
Michelleswt Posted February 22, 2014 Author Report Posted February 22, 2014 What is the best and cheapest transportation from ohare to this hotel. I read that it's cheap to take the blue line but I wonder how difficult it is to carry a suitcase and personal bag on the train. I will be arriving around 3 and checking is at 4. I would like to go to the baseball game the first night that's at 7:05, but I don't know if I'm cutting it close. Any thoughts?
AaronJB Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 I think that's going to be on the tight side. It's about an hour from ORD to downtown on the Blue Line. If you're getting in at 3, you could possibly face delays getting in, takes some time to get through the airport, waiting for a train (although the wait probably won't be bad at all.) In terms of the CTA, you also have to first get downtown, then it becomes either a short taxi trip North of the river to the NMA area to your hotel or switching trains from the Blue Line to the Red Line and then going North to the NMA area. That is additional time beyond the time getting downtown. The CTA is not the most comfortable longer option, but there should be no problem with a suitcase and bag - there will be a lot of people from the airport also with baggage. The only other main option is a taxi, which is VASTLY more expensive. The CTA is a couple of bucks, a taxi is going to be $35-45. I just think it would be tight to get to a 7:05 game and if anything gets delayed along the way, it could lead to a problem getting there on time.
Michelleswt Posted March 9, 2014 Author Report Posted March 9, 2014 O.k. Bought my tickets for Tuesday night. I think I will go the train route getting to my hotel and take a taxi back to the airport when we leave. I figure we will be riding the train and possibly taking a few taxi trips so I don't want to end up spending a couple hundred bucks on transportation.
