Sammo Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 For our first stay in NYC, we are looking for hotel from March 27 to April 1st in one of the following areas: MTW, TS, MSG, MTE and willing to accept CPS as well.I have tried for 3 ½* upscale hotels between $ 100 and $ 130 in these areas already, but no luck so far. Is it too early to bid for this period or should we increase the budget? Our absolute maximum is $ 150, but I have noticed there are express deals or hotwire secret rate deals around this price category as well. Any bidding help? Thanks in advance! We will off course use the links on the board. :)
thereuare Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! While nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, i do think that you can be successful within another $10 or so of your previously rejected bids... would it be worth another $10-$15/nite to lock this in now OR do you want to try to continue bidding at your current bid prices in hopes of rates coming down a little? (of course with the risk that they move higher from here instead of lower). While under $120 isn't out of the question for this time of year, $120-$150 is a bit more of the norm as rates begin to creep up after mid-March and then usually get very expensive from mid-April onwards (until the beginning of summer)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.PS- note that in the CPS is the Hudson Hotel, which while well located has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards), if this would be an issue for you for a 4 nite stay you may want to consider excluding this zone from your bidding (of course if the room size is not an issue for you for this stay then you can/should continue to include it in your bidding) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Sammo Posted February 10, 2014 Author Report Posted February 10, 2014 Thanks for your response, very helpful already! I would like to lock in a deal shortly as I have the feeling that prices have already moved higher since I started bidding 2 weeks ago (not on a daily basis), so I’m willing to increase our biddings up to $140 / max $150 like you suggested. I read about the Hudson Hotel and we don’t prefer this one. I noticed there are not many wins on this property lately, but it might indeed be safe to exclude the CPS area. It can be an option if our offers continue to be declined.I have a feeling that our 5th night from March 31-April 1 makes it difficult to get a win. I noticed Express deals within the requested areas are lower from March 27-March 31 (for example MTE $134/night 3,5* or MTW $144/night 3,5*), while the cheapest Express deal within the requested areas from March 27-April 1 is MTE $168/night 3,5*. I however don’t want to switch hotels for the final night, so let’s just keep trying. Thanks again!
