pitterpat Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 Been waiting for NYC midtown 4-star hotels to drop in price with 85% or more customer satisfaction. I clicked on an email link for a drop in price from Hotwire, & found a midtown east one in the range I want to spend but realized it's for 2 adults, not 2 adults/1 child (16 year old) as I had originally requested. I haven't booked it, but was wondering if I were to book this (or any hotel) with two adults, how successful would I be if I were to call hotel post booking to request two doubles in the room? I have booked on Priceline (bidding) when I didn't realize they guarantee for only 2 guests/room and had no problem accommodating my family of 4 as we were given a room with two doubles. Curious about others' experiences...
AaronJB Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)NYC is probably the most difficult city when it comes to using the discount services and wanting more than one bed.Using PRICELINE for NYC, one bed is almost guaranteed. With HOTWIRE, if you indicate two people, you will almost certainly get one bed. If you indicate 3-4 people, you should get bedding for the entire party, but that may be one bed + rollway or 1 + sofabed or two beds. There is no guarantee of a particular bed type. In NYC, two beds is often a paid upgrade, and hotels will likely either say no or potentially charge more if they are willing. If you indicate more than two people on HOTWIRE, rates very well may be higher and you may see different listings than if you searched for two adults only.If you need further assistance, please let us know date/s of travel, desired budget per night and which zone/s would be acceptable.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
pitterpat Posted February 9, 2014 Author Report Posted February 9, 2014 Thank you! I'm looking at a new Hotwire listing for 3 of us in Midtown East, 4 star, 90% recommended at 285/night in mid April. It's a little higher than I want to pay, but would rather pay a little more for a centrally located property with higher recommendation rating. Also see a location near Empire State bldg with 95% recommendation (4 star property), but I've heard area doesn't have as much access to restaurants & such. Had seen another 4 star listing in the lower 200s in midtown east, but with 75-80% recommendation - suspected it was Hilton Manhattan East which has really mixed reviews so didn't jump on that one. If you have any ideas/suggestions re the ones I mentioned, I'm all ears. Also as I peruse the hotel list section today, I don't see any amenities listed below respective hotel names... not sure what's up with that today?
thereuare Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Also see a location near Empire State bldg with 95% recommendation (4 star property), but I've heard area doesn't have as much access to restaurants & such. Not necessarily, there are plenty of restaurants in almost all areas of the city, and if you should find a lack of restaurants of your style near your hotel, there is a whole new assortment just a short subway or cab ride away... i wouldn't NOT choose a restaurant due to nearby restaurants (nor would i necessarily agree with the statement that there are no good restaurants in the area). For help with the ESB property please use our BiddingHelper.com and in the EASY VIEW TAB click the GREEN BUTTON next to this offer and let us know the room rate per nite and the full list of amenities associated with this property. Also as I peruse the hotel list section today, I don't see any amenities listed below respective hotel names... not sure what's up with that today?Make sure you're looking at the Hotwire Hotel List (and NOT the Priceline Hotel List). If this is not the issue please send us a PM so we can help you troubleshoot offline, as it's appearing correctly for me on this end. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pitterpat Posted February 10, 2014 Author Report Posted February 10, 2014 Per your direction, I clicked on one of the HOTWIRE links from your site & chose a midtown central, 4-star, 90% recommended hotel. Got the Grand Hyatt New York for 276/nt. Thank you!
thereuare Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Congratulations on your success! I assume you actually clicked on a 'Midtown EAST' listing as that is zone that the Grand Hyatt is located in.Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase. Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pitterpat Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 Yes, I preferred the midtown east section over Empire State area so that's how I got the Grand Hyatt. The amenities shown now on my booking page are: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, and Tennis Nearby & Spa Services. Again, the rate was 276/nt. I checked Hotwire just now & it looks like it's being offered at $277 but unlike yesterday where it said the hotel was 90% recommended, they don't offer that info today. Thanks for the bagel place recommendation. Will have to take advantage of being close by.
yellowdog Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 pitterpatThanx for the follow-up!Also thanx for reporting this new amenity combo to the BetterBidding Hotwire Hotel List.Enjoy your stay,Yellowdog.
