rdn5cents Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Wondering what would be most affordable, and when I should try, Soho, Lower East side, Midtown East, Midtown West, or chelsea? Also, how much should I expect to spend a night on a 4 or 5 star?
AaronJB Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please confirm your desired budget per night for this stay. Soho/Lower East/Downtown are most likely going to be more affordable, but are also less convenient/less centrally located.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rdn5cents Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 Budget is $150 - $200 / night. I would like the "most happening" area...if that is vague enough. Sorry.

thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 I would like the "most happening" area...if that is vague enough.Too vague. What is the purpose of this trip... sight seeing, bar hopping, shopping (if so, high end or discount), restaurants, etc?We generally recommend that users try to be centrally located, but there is so much to see and do in NYC that there is not one 'perfect place' that is convenient to everything... the better approach is to try to be centrally located to different subway lines which can then take you anywhere you need to go. And remember, chances are that you will start from your hotel in the morning and then go to multiple locations throughout the day, not returning to your hotel between each one, so your hotel doesn't need to be convenient to everything, since your various stops throughout the day will be from your previous location, not necessary from your hotel. (hope you followed that and it makes sense)Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rdn5cents Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 We have been to NYC a number of times, and stayed in many different areas. Last trip we stayed at the Sheraton in SOHO, and I wasn't crazy about the location of that specific hotel, though there were a few within walking distance (Soho Grand) that were awesome. Not sure where most people are getting booked in Soho of late on priceline, but that would be cool. We have also stayed at the W in Midtown, which was very cool too. I can't say I liked one area over the other. We do enjoy shopping, and we tend to be more upscale, but not opposed to discount, and we do enjoy good restaurants, probably a little too much. But we will not be going too crazy on this trip. (meaning no 11 Madison park or Gramercy Tavern)!! :(I hope this gives you enough info.
thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Thoughts on what i'm guessing to be the:InterContinental Barclay for $154/niteCarlton on Madison Avenue OR St. Giles the Court for $135/niteSofitel for $199/niteOmni Berkshire Place for $215/niteInterContinental Times Square for $234/nite(some higher than your $200 max target but not too much more and since you enjoy 'upscale' some of these get very high ratings)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rdn5cents Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 Awesome! Thanks, What about SOHO? Also, when do you recommend trying?
thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 The hotels above represented good value (imo) relative to available rates for your dates and were some of the 'better' ones (again, imo)... if you want to try bidding and your plans are firm i would start now, determining your maximum bid based upon what you think you may be able to get thru PRICELINE vs. the hotels offered above at those prices. I didn't see anything in Soho that i thought represented a good value vs. those above. If you let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept, and confirm your desired star rating and maximum bid, we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rdn5cents Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 Ok, but just to be clear. If I put $200 in for Midtown, would I get the Sofitel? Could I get the intercontinental? I guess what I'm asking is are there any near "guarantees" to get the hotel we want?
thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 The above were offers i saw on HOTWIRE, where you can often take an educated guess as to the property you may receive (but we can't see the names of the hotel either, so naturally there are no guarantees). PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than PRICELINE, but there is no way to target/guess/avoid any particular hotel in the zone, you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rdn5cents Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 You have MTW and MTW, do yo mean MTW and MTE?Also, can I get good value in Central Park South?
thereuare Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 You have MTW and MTW, do yo mean MTW and MTE?FIXED... sorry about that. Also, can I get good value in Central Park South? The 'problem' with CPS is that it has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards). Even if you are willing to accept the Hudson, other than this one property, this zone is usually quite expensive at the 4* level. If the Hudson is acceptable you could include this zone in order to increase the number of bidding opportunities you have, but many find the rooms at the Hudson to be much too tiny. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Congrats on your success. :)Quite a good deal for this NYC property! Hope you are looking forward to your stay. This was an independent boutique property that was renovated and turned into a Renaissance a few years back.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
