We're looking at dates 14 Mar to 19 Mar, and wanting to stay in the Manhattan area, so that we can take advantage of the $30 7-day unlimited MetroPass. Other than those requirements, we are completely flexible on star rating (though we'd probably like to stay above 2.5-star, if possible) and zones. Any tips/recommendations? We're looking to spend $100-ish per night, tops. Of course, if we can spend less on hotels, we have more money to actually do stuff whilst there, so I'm looking to save as much as possible.On a related note, do you have any tips on pre-booking a broadway show on discount? (including taxes/fees) for these date/s or $100 + taxes/fees? $100 "all-in" is going to be unlikely for these date/s, although $100 + taxes/fees MAY be enough at a lower star rating, although it depends on the zone. NYC's slowest period is January and into Feb. thereuare Posted February 4, 2014 Report Share Posted February 4, 2014 I'd say $100 all-in is doubtful for your dates, you would be fortunate if you're able to get something around the $100/nite room rate (before fees/taxes)At far as zones, at the 2.5* level most find:MTW, TS, MSG, ESB to all be generally well located with easy access to transportationMTE and Chelsea and Hells Kitchen: some hotels on the outskirts of the zones can be up to a 10+ minute walk to the subway, still do-able but not as convenient. As well, as i assume you're around college aged, Chelsea is a 'hot' area right now so you may enjoy staying there for that reason as well, even if not as convenient as the other zones above (and it's not inconvenient, it's just not as convenient)CPS: well located but has the Hudson Hotel which has notorious small rooms, even by NYC standards, so you'll need to decide if this is a deterrent from you including this zone in your biddingDowntown: less convenient than the zones above, but still quite do-able for the right priceGiven your budget i'd suggest selecting as many zones that are acceptable as possible as it will give more hotels a chance to accept your bid, which would result in the lowest price possible.Let us know your thoughts (or questions) regarding zones, as well as if you're able to increase your budget to a $100/nite bid price, and we'll take it from there.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. We don't mind walking a bit to get to public transport, 15-20 minutes is no big deal. I'm just looking to save as much as possible so that we have budget to spend on activities in town. So, whilst we might be able to go $120ish all-in, we'd really rather spend less on the hotel. Neither of us have ever been to NYC, so we have no idea what zones are preferable. Do you have a rebid strategy for me? Or are my criteria too vague?Thank you all so much for the help. Link to comment

Got Red Roof Long Island City. Did I do okay? Hope I didn't screw myself over. I realise the location is a bit off what I was asking for, but I figured the price would justify it.
