Debating how to work this. My search is for 03/06/2014 to 03/11/2014. They offer 4*mte @ $118.00 for the 4 nights. But 5 nights I think it is the same property at $130.00.

Do I bit at the 4 nights hoping they ask if I want an xtra night at the same price? Or bid on 4* on Priceline for last night? Or wait and be patient because as the date comes closer it may go down for the whole stay? I think the 6th till the 11th would not be considered high season. Thank you for your 2cents worth! Which is always worth $$,

And yes of course I use the links here.

There is a method to the madness of hotel pricing, and there is reason the last nite of your stay is more expensive then the others.

I searched for your dates and saw the following amenities for the 4* hotel in this zone for your dates:

Pet Friendly

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Laundry

Hi-Speed Internet

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Roll-in Shower

If this is what you're seeing, my best guess for this property would be the Doubletree Metropolitan. Using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and searching for the first 4 nites of your stay shows a direct rate at this property of $199/nite.. searching for only the last nite of your stay shows a rate of $299 for that one nite. So the higher rate you're seeing thru HOTWIRE is not 'just because', but can be explained by the higher rated the hotel has for this last nite of your stay (not uncommon since weekend nites in NYC are usually less expensive than mid-week nites... consistent in the pricing you're seeing above). Therefore, even if you purchase the first 4 nites, if you were able to extend the stay for the additional nite it would very likely NOT be at the same rate, you would likely be offered a higher rate for the additional nite at this same property.

Are you willing to change hotels for the last nite of your stay?

Thank you for explaining that...I would not have put that together. no I wouldn't mind moving on the last night. Just that timing of check out time early at your first place and then not being able to check in right away at the other. I figured the doubletree also. Might be worth buying the 5 nights and then just bid the Mid East side and see what I get. Going to prob bid tomorrow PRICELINE for all 6 nights. Won't go any higher than 120.00 tho.

I will link to PRICELINE from here and post if I win!

Let us know how the bidding goes, even if unsuccessful, as others can benefit from even rejected bid information.

Is MTE the only zone you're willing to accept? Are you familiar with re-bidding? (if not see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, but it's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding if you're new to the subject)

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
