Hello,

we will be in new york on the 22-24 august.

I am looking for a accomodation which is central. I want to do :- top of the rock (at sunset), national history museum, statue of liberty, times square, maybe a look a the chrysler building, a quick look at central park and a quick ride on the tram to roosevelt island!!

I want to do soo much and we have a very limited time span, also the kids are only 8 and 11 and I was a bit worried it might be too much to cram in for them too.

anyway what I would like to know is where would be good to base our selves, and when would be a good time to book, now or later. do the prices climb as we get near or do they stay steady?

we are looking at HOTWIRE not PRICELINE as we need to be able to fit in the room.

we have never been to new york and I have no idea what I am doing :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your trip... the best advise is to 'know' what a good deal is and if you see a offer that looks appealing within that budget take it. If rates remain high in the months ahead you can raise the amount you consider to be a 'good deal' a little bit every few weeks as you get closer and closer to your trip. Do keep in mind that quad occupancy often commands a premium so you should expect to pay more than other have historically (or for future wins posted for the month of August) if the wins you're comparing to were only for double occupancy.

For your plans almost anything in midtown should work out fine for your plans, but your itinerary does sound a little aggressive... Top of the Rock will take at least a few hours (the lines, while not as bad as the Empire Stat Building) can get to be very long. As well, if you intend to visit the Statue of Liberty (as opposed to just passing by while on the Staten Island Ferry or viewing from Battery Park) that will take almost the a full day (as there are usually long lines to get on the ferry to the island as well as long lines to take the ferry back). If your kids are into museums and history then those will work out well for your family as they are self-guided and you can spend as much or as little time as you would like, but i have children a little younger than yours and they would quickly get bored... they would be more interested visiting places like FAO Schartz and the Ferris Wheel inside Toys R Us.

The biggest factor in deciding upon where to stay for this trip will likely be your budget... what are you expecting to pay per nite for a room for the four of you?

Hi thank you for your reply, I have been studying for an exam!

thanks for the info it has been invaluable. I have decided not to go to visit the statue of liberty but to view when passing :) I would still like to do top of the rock or the empire state building but to be fair if we don't I don't mind, I just want to experience new york.

I am going to check out what FAO schartz is! and I am more than sure they want to go to toys r us, I am assuming that its big if it has a ferris wheel.

I would like to pay no more than £125 per night inc tax etc

I'm seeing a slightly different 4*when searching for these date/s - are you still seeing the above listing? If so, are you searching on a PC or mobile device?

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above?

Spending an arm and a leg is all part of the NYC experience you asked for :P

Once you land a hotel we'll help determine your best means to get there from JFK.

For your future searches and purchases, please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.

Repeating your search above, please confirm the room rate per nite in US Dollars as well as the full list of amenities and we'll advise accordingly.

Neither of these properties have been reported to the board as-is, but my guess for the ESB property would be the Affinia Dumont or the Affinia Shelburne... although the Strand and Hotel Giraffe would be possibilities as well. There coudl be others as well, but with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating, i wouldn't be concerned regarding quality for this one.

For the Downtown property i could research further and come up with some possibilities, but i don't think it's worthwhile as this location will not be as good as the ESB option and for the same price you're better off taking the 'known' better reviewed property.
