I didnt see this covered anywhere. In the past history does it matter if you bid early for your trip or wait til closer to the time your going. Im trying to book a 4* in St. Louis for this saturday Feb 1st for one night and I have gone all the way up to $100 with fee's and its getting rejected everytime. In the past I have stayed in the same area 4* for $60 with fees but it has been during the week and not a weekend. thanks

You're within one week of check-in so i don't think the early/late discussion really applies here, but more so the issue is that rates are date specific and something is happening in town this weekend which is driving up demand (and therefore driving up rates as well)

If you use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and filter to show only 4* hotels near St. Louis you'll see the only hotel at this star rating showing availability is the Westin St. Louis at $290/nite. I also tried checking the Doubletree at Union Station and the are sold-out... i suspect you will find high rates and/or sold-out conditions at the other 4* hotels in this zone as well.

Do you have to stay Downtown or are other nearby zones acceptable, or how high are you willing to bid for a 4* hotel before lowering your star rating to 3.5* (or lower)?
