noeatbutgo Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 Hi, I'm planning to stay at NYC between Mar-12 and Mar-15. I'd like to get 4* and above hotels for my stay. I've tried a couple of times for bidding with US$90~95 per night (I knew it was very thin!) but surely it failed.I think people here usually take prices from Hotwire/Priceline express deals as rough starting points for bidding, is it right? I looked up those prices through Hotwire and Priceline deals and 4* hotel prices were above US$170-180.Anyway could anyone throw some lights for my bidding strategy? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Based upon the rate/s I'm seeing, I think you're likely looking at $135-145 +/-, depending on zone.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
noeatbutgo Posted January 26, 2014 Author Report Posted January 26, 2014 Thanks, I'm considering US$130-150 as the maximum!
AaronJB Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 $90-95 is not out of the question for January and probably early Feb, but once you get to mid-March unfortunately it becomes unrealistic. I would next try $110 and go higher by $5's using re-bidding. $110 is not likely going to be realistic either, but you have some time and I would at least try lower levels before getting towards the $130-150 neighborhood. Please let us know if you have any questions.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

noeatbutgo Posted January 27, 2014 Author Report Posted January 27, 2014 Thanks so much for kind advices, Aaron!Admin, will definitely post my results after the bidding. Cheers
noeatbutgo Posted January 27, 2014 Author Report Posted January 27, 2014 Just tried with US$105 for MTE, TS and MTW- I knonw it was a long shot but just did as I have plenty of time as you mentioned. Will try again with US$110 tomorrow!
thereuare Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Are you willing to bid up to $110 (or $130 or $150) at this point in time, as you can get up to these levels in one or two days by bidding strategically instead of the one bid per day approach that you're currently taking. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. noeatbutgo Posted January 30, 2014 Author Report Posted January 30, 2014 Finally got 3 nights at DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan with $133/night + tax (toal $164/night).I changed my date to Mar 8-11 from Mar 12-15 as the latter period seemed to be more congested due to St.Patrick festival... which I would not be able to enjoy as I am supposed to leave NY on Mat 16!!!HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS were suggesting $145/night so I started with $125... including MTE, MTW, TS and CPS. Before I got a room, my last bidding was $130 in MTE, MTW and TS. After a failure, then I increased my bidding to US$133 and addded CPS, then got the room. Not sure if it is a good deal but at least HHonors is offering the room at the normal rate of $278/night (incl. tax) so anyway I got a 40% discount!
AaronJB Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Congrats on your success. :)Great discount on this well-located property, plus free Doubletree cookies at check-in are always a plus.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
