andoted Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 HelloNext stop on our tour of the US is Chicago. AaronJB Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 Please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase..A couple thoughts regarding Chicago:1. If you are touring the US via car, parking is extremely expensive downtown at hotels or lots. You may want to consider one of the suburbs if the difference is substantial enough vs downtown hotels. 2. The Loop-Theater District area does have some shopping and is closer to museums, but keep in mind that it can be pretty quiet in parts at night, especially the West and South parts of the zone. The areas North of the river (Mag Mile-River North, Mag Mile-WT or furthest North, the Gold Coast area) would be a better option if you plan to be out later at night.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

thereuare Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 The Allerton Hotel Chicago would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
andoted Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 That will teach me, I had to leave the computer for a short while and when I came back that deal had gone!!!! How frequently are the deals changed, any ideas?
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I wouldn't really have recommended the Allerton. HOTWIRE listings can change at any time, it is all based upon available inventory - a hotel listing may change tomorrow or remain until your date/s of travel. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
andoted Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 Hello againIdeally I am looking around the $85 mark - I have already bagged what I think was a good deal in Toronto for this price and was trying to get a similar bargain in Chicago - we are then going onto Washington DC so don't want to spend too much on the rooms, however we like being in the centre of the city in a good clean and spacious room. Therefore I always look to try a bag a four star just to try and ensure a bit of quality / standard. Do you have any tactics or suggestions to try and nab such a good deal. We are not going until April so am I looking too early? Many thanks
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 You're not looking too early. This is not the busiest period of the year, certainly, but activity does ramp up with the start of baseball and weather getting better. If the potential Allerton is acceptable, I would suggest instead bidding at the 4* level in the River North-NMA area on PRICELINE, starting at $65 and working higher by $5's using re-bidding.There is a 4* in the Loop area; while this area is not the best if you are going to be out late at night, the listing is reasonably priced at $80 (the price you see may vary slightly) and has a 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating, so the hotel does get terrific reviews. The Loop area is closer to museums and does have some shopping. When you follow the instructions above, you should see this as the full list of amenities: Free Internet,Pet friendly,Boutique Hotel,Smoke Free Rooms,Fitness Center,Restaurant(s),Business Center,Internet access,Spa Services,Accessible for the blind,Accessible for the deaf,Accessible path of travel,In-room accessibility,Accessible bathroom,Handicapped parking,Roll-in showerThis listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but may be something like the Wit or a new amenity set for one of the Kimpton properties in the zone?Let us know if you have any questions before bidding/purchasing.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
andoted Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 Hello AaronThanks for the advice, great mids think alike - I had already began to bid on priceline but have already got up to $80 dollars with no joy. I think the earlier deal I posted is back on hotwire for $80 (I could of course be wrong!)do you think I should jump on it?
thereuare Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 For the 4* Loop property:Free Internet Pet Friendly Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... my guess would be the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront (previously the Hotel 71).Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 The Wyndham Grand would be a terrific win as that property is square in the middle of downtown, right next to the Michigan Ave bridge. The Michigan Ave. shopping area starts just to the North, the Art Institute and Millennium Park area are a few blocks South and the River North area is an easy walk to the NW.Definitely an great location to explore the city.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
andoted Posted January 24, 2014 Author Report Posted January 24, 2014 Hello againMany thanks for your advice - I got itchy feet and jumped on the last offer I mentioned and you were right, I got the Allerton at $79 a night! Was happy and content with that.......until I saw your latest post about the one in The Loop!!!! Ah well, still got a bargain , I think / hope?! Our final few days are in Washington DC, any tips or strategies in trying to get a good deal. We want to be downtown ideally in I guess a 4* hotel if poss, travel datesa re check in on 15th April, out on the 19th. Many thanksTed
AaronJB Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 Congrats on your success. :)Not a bad deal for this property, certainly. The Allerton is an older property, but it is square in the middle of the North Michigan Ave. area. If you are just looking for a place to sleep and will not be in the hotel much of the stay, this property does offer an awesome location. You're also an easy walk from public transit at the corner of State and Chicago.I'm seeing the cheapest rate on Expedia for the Allerton for these date/s at $150 - and that's on sale. So nearly half off? Good deal, I think. Please let us know if you have any city questions and we would be happy to take a look at your DC stay - please start a new thread in the DC section.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
