yellowdog Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Best guess would be the Luxor. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help.Yellowdog.
sevo Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 Excellent, I thought it would be.Also looking on PRICELINE....there is only two 3.5* hotels in the Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South area, the Luxor ($98 to buy on priceline) and Flamingo ($174 to buy on PRICELINE).Looking on the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals, for the 3.5* hotels in the Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South area, it only has 1 hotel coming out at $74 per night (which is the Luxor - based on amenities and resort fee prices). So am I right in guessing, if I tried to submit a few offers on the name your own price part of PRICELINE, I probably will only be bidding on the Luxor? (Due to the Flamingo being so expensive and not on the Express Deals, it probably wont be on the name your own price?).Also, with knowing the Luxor is on HOTWIRE for the $68 per night, how much lower would you go with the priceline bids?Start at $50 per night you think??
AaronJB Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 You could still potentially get the Flamingo (although it hasn't been reported to the board for a while) or a hotel at that level not yet reported to the board (or be upgraded to the 4* level) if you bid on PRICELINE.I would suggest you could even try $45 first and go up slowly ($47, $50, $52, $55) because you have time.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Looking on the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals, for the 3.5* hotels in the Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South area, it only has 1 hotel coming out at $74 per night (which is the Luxor - based on amenities and resort fee prices).PRICELINE EXPRESS only shows up to one hotel at each star rating per zone, so even if there were TEN hotels at the 3.5* level available in PRICELINE inventory for your dates, only one would be shown, so you can't use this information to determine what you will get when bidding on PRICELINE.As well, the star rating you select is the minimum that you are willing to accept, your 3.5* bid could always be upgraded to a higher rated hotel. If you are willing to accept any 3.5* hotel (or higher) in the zone and want to move forward by bidding on PRICELINE, let us know your maximum bid and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sevo Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 Ahhhh ok, didnt realise it only shows the 1 hotel on the express regardless....good info!My strategy is just to try and get the cheapest possible half decent hotel in the south strip area....its a stag do and some of the guys have already booked into the excalibur and a couple of others the luxor.I've been to Vegas once before and stayed in the Luxor then which I was happy with so would like that again if possible, just trying to get more towards the $50 per night mark.Does booking multiple rooms at once give a better chance of a successful bid? I'm looking at booking 3 rooms for 6 people...
AaronJB Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Does booking multiple rooms at once give a better chance of a successful bid? I'm looking at booking 3 rooms for 6 people...Booking multiple rooms unfortunately does not increase your chances of a win.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 While nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, i'm not so sure how realistic $50/nite is (nor if it would be advisable to hold out for such a deal) as there are a few large conventions taking place during your stay:Windpower Convention 5/5-5/8 with 10K attendeesHardware Show 5/6-5/10 with 30K attendeesVegas can easily handle a total of 40K conference attendees at one time, but it is a large number of people and will likely have an effect on hotel rates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. sevo Posted January 22, 2014 Author Report Posted January 22, 2014 Ok that's some good info, cheers guys....I will probably submit a few offers over the next week or so and see how I get on...even if I only knock $8 off the $68 per night, that's $64 saved per room over the 8 days....$192 across the 3 rooms! Will update this post with what happens....thanks for all the info.

sevo Posted January 22, 2014 Author Report Posted January 22, 2014 Hi guys. I've just submitted a $45 bid on Priceline for a 3.5* in the Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South (trying to get the Luxor).Bid declined.Am I right in that I can add any of the following priceline zones and rebid, and these will ultimately just be bidding on the Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South area, as the area's below have no 3.5 / 4 / 5 * hotels?14 - Nellis - Las Vegas Speedway11 - NW Las Vegas3 - Henderson1 - Boulder StripThanks again in advance!

However, if you need even more bids, there is also one additional re-bid zones that you didn't include above (making there FIVE re-bid zoens in total)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. sevo Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 Brilliant, thanks for the confirmation. For the extra area, do you mean Zone 8 - Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North ?I didn't include that one as it has 4 / 4.5 / 5 * hotels, even though it has no 3.5*....as it was mentioned earlier my bid might be upgraded from 3.5* and I don't really want this area!
thereuare Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 You are correct... i simply added wrong when i had looked previously You do NOT want to add Strip North Vicinity to your bidding, sorry about that (and glad you double checked!)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sevo Posted February 21, 2014 Author Report Posted February 21, 2014 Hi guys. Just an update....I started bidding on priceline from $45 up to $69 over a few days around the time of the initial post and got declined each time. The price for the Luxor had then gone up to $76 on hotwire....so I left it and have been checking daily. Just come on today, and it had dropped back down to $69 on hotwire....so went on priceline again, bid $65 a night for 7 days and won! Well happy as I thought I'd missed the opportunity once it went up from $68 to $76 on hotwire!!! Thanks again for the help provided...
