UrbanTraveller Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I've been a member of this forum for quite awhile but have had problems posting wins over the past few years.I recently booked The Edison Hotel for June 4-5th and June 9-11th for $229 per night. The reason I booked this hotel through their own website was that they allow cancellations for no feesprovided you cancel 24 hours prior. I haven't seen any wins on the calendar of wins for these dates yet but I did notice that someone did get a rate of $130/day for later the same week.Has anyone ever used the bidding websites for pre and post cruise trips before?I've set my Hotwire alerts for the dates I listed above and will monitor them for the next few months. So far, I'm seeing rates on traditional websites ranging from $330+.Should I expect prices to drop below $229/night in June for New York City? I have never stayed in New York in June before. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Please let us know what issues you have been having with posting - thanks. :)People do certainly use either service for pre/post cruise stays; like other date/s, it really all depends on inventory. What would be your desired budget per night/star rating for this stay? Additionally, which zone/s would be acceptable?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
UrbanTraveller Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 What would be your desired budget per night/star rating for this stay? Additionally, which zone/s would be acceptable? My desired budget is really open. Anything from $125-$165/night is acceptable. I have in past years booked the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers for the amazing rate of $165/night using this website and Priceline. Unfortunately, since they have renovated and the average rate for that particular hotel is around $430+ per night, I don't see that happening. Although it is still on my wish list.I am looking for a hotel room in either Midtown East or Midtown Central or Midtown West. My star rating is ideally 4*. I will not go lower than a 3.5* in New York. I'm not opposed to staying in Times Square though I do find that area very busy and often overpriced.I have stayed at the Hudson Hotel in Central Park South a few years back but found that that particular hotel was in an awkward spot for people who tend to walk everywhere.

UrbanTraveller Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 Thanks again for your help with the bidding. I followed the strategy that you gave me for the June 9-11th trip for the same area and star ratings for the June 4-5th trip. I ended up getting the one night at $2 cheaper than my other stay. I also like the fact that I ended up at the 3.5* Courtyard by Marriott New York Manhattan/Times Square West in Madison Square Gardens - Convention area for $181/night. I'm really glad that this worked out.
