goon Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Hey all,Long time lurker here. Have used your links exclusively to book many a Priceline deal, but have not posted until now due to most of my other travels being to locales that I have frequented before. Now, I'm stepping up into the big leagues and staying in NYC for the first time this coming April 25th (Friday) through 27th (Sunday). Here are my particulars:Budget- $150 to 200 (if possible) Dates- April 25-27 2014Locations- traveling by train from DC, so would like to stay near penn station/MSG (unless there is a nicer area that fits in my budget that isnt too far to travel from there)Misc- While I realize this is a priceline specific sub-forum, Im not partial to either Hotwire or Priceline and will use whichever is the best to meet my goal. [Note: I figured posting this thread one time would suffice; if it would be better to mirror this in the Hotwire side, let me know and I'll do that]Thanks in advance for any assistance. In the meantime, I'll continue to use your links as you have saved me hundreds with your insight and advice.
thereuare Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!...but have not posted until now due to most of my other travels being to locales that I have frequented before. It would be appreciated if you started to share all your wins with the board, not everyone that uses the board is local to the areas you visit, so sharing your wins can help others, just as you have been helped by those who have posted before you. ;)Please start by reading your messages, then click each of the links above and reply to this thread, we'll then have a close look at your upcoming NYC stay and advise accordingly. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. goon Posted January 18, 2014 Author Report Posted January 18, 2014 Done and done. Sorry for the lack of posts until now; I'll be sure to contribute my wins from now on. :)
thereuare Posted January 18, 2014 Report Posted January 18, 2014 What is your desired star rating? You could get a 4* hotel in the MTE zone within your budget, and while this is not exactly 'close' to MSG, it would only be a $10-$15 taxi ride (or $2.50 by subway if your bags for this 2 nite stay is manageable) OR...I also see on HOTWIRE what appears to be the 3.5* Element Times Square West which gets good reviews and is offered for $132/nite, gets good reviews, and would be walkable to MSG.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts? goon Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 I like those options, but the negotiator in me is saying to shoot the moon and try for the best deal for my $$$ :). I'd like to get a 4 or higher, but in reading some of your other postings in the NYC forums it looks like my budget may be a little low. As for location, if all things are equal I think it would be the tipping point (i.e. closest to MSG/Penn station), but like you state above I won't overlook a good deal due to a short cab ride.In short, I'd like snag a 4 star (or higher, of course) in MSG or MTW/MTE (and maybe chelsea too, if you recommend it) for as close to 150 as possible. Any thoughts on a specific bid plan would be immensely appreciated.

goon Posted February 6, 2014 Author Report Posted February 6, 2014 I used the bidding advice posted above....unfortunately I was unsuccessful (I think thereuare tried to warn me :) had to try though, right?)Anyway, I ended up finding a deal on HOTWIRE for a 4 star in the MSG/HK area for 162 per night. Rated 70%.Got the New Yorker Hotel on 34th and 8th in the garment district. Outstanding for me, since we are training it from DC and this is looks to be a stones throw from the station. Thanks again for the help!
