Hello all... I have been trying for past week on bidding hotels in 3.5 to 4.5 category with no success - I assume due to Spring Break. There is a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for 3.5 Star - North Michigan Ave - River North - $97... Amenities: free internet, pets allowed, business center and fitness center. Could you possibly give me some direction on what hotel(s) you think this might be? Thanks!

Please provide a follow-up for your prior Cancun Hotwire thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread.)

Also, the issue here is that I believe the Housewares show starts towards the end of this time period.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thank you for the show information --- that would explain the large price increase and lack of successful bids thus far.

When I search on the retail price side for a 3.5* in this zone with those amenities, the only option that comes up is the Indigo, so that would be my guess. If that's the case, I liked that property quite a bit when I stayed there. Rooms are a little on the small side, but cutely decorated in the chain's style. It's in the Gold Coast, so this is a few minutes walk North of the top end of the NMA area. There is a subway station around the corner and the Gold Coast area is nice, but it's not centrally located downtown.

Let us know your thoughts.

I'm seeing a 4* in the Gold Coast area on HOTWIRE for $97, which I think (at least the listing that I am seeing when searching this afternoon) may be the Public. If that is the Public, it's about a block or so East of the Indigo. Are you looking for something in particular in terms of style, budget, location?

I appreciate it --- We are travelling with kids and wanted to try and stay as close to the river as possible as we will use foot and public transportation for the week and wanted to see some of the popular spots. Our budget needs to be around $100 per night and we preferred 3.5+ on hotel category; however, I'm up to any suggestions... Thank you everyone!

The issue with PRICELINE is that you may get one bed - is that acceptable? There are some options on HOTWIRE closer to the river when searching for 2 adults and 2 children, but they are more towards the $120-140 range. Also, PRICELINE's RN-NMA area is pretty big; you could definitely wind up in the top end of the zone. HOTWIRE's Mag Mile-RN area is really the best bet to at least get in the bottom half of the NMA area, towards the river.

This also would be an instance where splitting your stay may be worthwhile - the 3/11-14 period on HOTWIRE is noticeably cheaper when viewed separately vs 3/11-16. I'm seeing a 4* on HOTWIRE in the Mag Mile/RN area for $89 for 3/11-14. Would potentially switching hotels be of any interest?

Edited to add:

Chicago has excellent public transit and the downtown is not giant. It also becomes a matter of, if it's noticeably cheaper to stay in the Gold Coast than other parts of downtown, is it worth it to walk (and, who knows, sometimes March can be nice weather-wise in Chicago) or take public transit rather than spend more to stay closer to the river?
