Dyzfunctioned Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Hey everyone,Going to San Francisco March 1-5th and looking to get a decent deal via PRICELINE. Wanting to stay in USE, USW or Financial District and have seen recently a lot of people have gotten 4* for around $98, though most have been in December. What's a good starting point/what should I expect to pay? Budget is about $120 per night, looking for a 4* in USE/USW/Financial though would settle for a 3.5*.
thereuare Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 When bidding 4* in San Francisco you have SIX re-bid zones. Dyzfunctioned Posted January 6, 2014 Author Report Posted January 6, 2014 No luck so far but will keep trying. May have to up my budget.Went up to $145 and still nothing.
AaronJB Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 With a 4* in USE on HOTWIRE for $162, I'd have to imagine that you are getting extremely close. I'd either wait a little bit or if you go higher, I would do so by no more than $2 at a time. Would Fisherman's Wharf be acceptable? Prices there seem a *little* bit cheaper.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Dyzfunctioned Posted January 6, 2014 Author Report Posted January 6, 2014 Yea I noticed that - was really hoping to get something for $140 or less and have started considering 3.5*. There's a 3.5* on HOTWIRE in Fisherman's Wharf for $101 right now which I think might be the Best Western but still trying to decide if it's worth the extra money to stay downtown.

Dyzfunctioned Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 Hey sorry, I clicked those links.I'm now looking for a 3*-4* or better in Union Square East. As far as I can tell, the only re-bid zone is Richmond. I tried up to $113 for USE 3* with no luck. My budget is $130 as I can get a 3* Chancellor in USW for that.Any help? I don't want to do HOTWIRE for a 3* USE as it includes hotels like Pickwick, etc.
AaronJB Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Unfortunately, if $113 wasn't accepted, the only option is to consider other zones/ratings or bid higher ($113, $115, $117, $120, $122)Is there anything of interest in your desired budget on PRICELINE express?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Dyzfunctioned Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 So is the best strategy to try again tomorrow and do...3.5* USE $1153.5* USE/Richmond $1183.0* USE/Richmond $120Next day...3.5* USE $1233.5* USE/Richmond $1253.0* USE/Richmond $128Or is there a faster way to do it? I can get the Chancellor at retail rate for $130 per night so don't want to exceed that and that seems a better deal than anything on PRICELINE EXPRESS which has a 3.5* USW for $135 or a few 4* starting at $180.
thereuare Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 So is the best strategy to try again tomorrow and do...No... the strategy above leaves you vulnerable to overbidding for a 3* hotel. To clarify, to-date you have only bid up to $120 for a 4* hotel? Have you done any 3.5* or 3* bidding yet? What is your preference... to bid higher (up to $130... or some other amount) for a 4* hotel OR try a lesser bid amount for a lower rated hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Dyzfunctioned Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 I've realized I won't likely get a 4* for the amount I want to pay (I've tried up to $145, not willing to go much higher) so now I'm looking at 3* or 3.5* but specifically in USE (has good lower-class hotels like Chancellor, Orchard, Orchard Garden, Triton, etc.)So in summary I was willing to spend up to $145 for a 4*+ in USE/USW/Financial and it didn't work. So now I'm looking to get a 3-3.5* in USE for under $130.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 In the USE zone on HOTWIRE they have what appears to be the Hotel Union Square for $126/nite or what may be the Hotel Fusion at $103/nite... are either of these of interest that you would want to purchase at this price (or that we could adjust downward your maximum bid if you decided to first try bidding on PRICELINE)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Dyzfunctioned Posted January 22, 2014 Author Report Posted January 22, 2014 I actually ended up booking the Chancellor Hotel on HOTWIRE for $113 USD per night from March 1st-5th after seeing this Union Square West Hotwire hotel thread.Amenities were the same as in the hotel list: Restaurant, High-speed internet, deaf/travel/in-room/handicapped accesibleThe price has been changing quite a bit as well. I went to book and it was $115 USD per night, then accidentally closed out and went back in and it was down to $113 USD per night. Looking this morning it is sitting at $108 USD per night.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see the other thread helped you commit to this purchase and that you received the hotel you were hoping for.Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
