Priceline Hotel: Vegas Strip South for 1/19/14 to 1/22/14

Priceline bidding comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Looking to stay in City Center or as close to it as possible for three nights from 1/19/14. Aria, Cosmo or Vdara would all be fine. I think this is 5*, right?

I noticed that hotel rates on the 3rd night really spike on 1/21, due, I think to a convention.

You can't bid on a specific hotel, or specific area of the zone, when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates.

For your dates HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Aria for $134/nite and the Vdara for $119/nite... do you want to to with one of these offers OR try bidding for a lower price with the understanding that you may receive a 5* hotel in some other area or part of the zone? If bidding on PRICELINE what would be your maximum bid?

I'm aware that I may land outside of City Center hotels, and I can take that risk. At the 5 star level, what hotels have people been getting, and at what price? Also, is the room level "run of the house" or something better?

For your specific dates you can use the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins

Using our Priceline Maps to search for "Las Vegas" and in the STRIP SOUTH VICINITY section next to each hotel click the VIEW link... you'll see all reported wins for that hotel with dates and prices (as well as a link to the winning bid ;) )

If you let us know your maximum bid we can suggest a strategy for you to follow.

All PRICELINE / HOTWIRE wins are for 'standard' rooms. You can try upgrading at check-in, sometimes you get lucky and get a free upgrade, sometimes the hotel will offer an upgrade for an additional fee, or sometimes the hotel is not able, or willing, to offer any upgrade.

In the end, I wound up booking direct at the Vdara for the first two nights and avoidnig the much more expensive 3rd night.
