ygong Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Hi, I checked the hotel price for February 1, 2014 on Priceline.com and found a 4* hotel would cost around $400 per night, which is 2X the price if booked for any other weekend. Can anybody explain why this is happening, and will I able to find cheaper deals for under $200 per night? My trip date cannot be moved because I booked my plane ticket already. =(
thereuare Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 The SuperBowl is taking place in this area on February 2 and the city is expecting large crowds. What are the actual dates of your trip? Which airport are you flying in to?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ygong Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 My plane will arrive at the Newark on Feb 1. I am leaving on Feb 2. I guess I picked the wrong date to NYC. No wonder the hotel is so expensive! Do I get any chance to find an affordable rate for the accommodation? =S
thereuare Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Searching HOTWIRE for your dates i see:4* MTE for $171/nite with:Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower --> my best guess for this property would be the Roosevelt. Not the best hotel in the city, but the location is excellent and should probably work for a one nite stay3* MTE for $162/niteFree Internet Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower --> The Roger Smith Hotel would be a guess but i'm not certain but the 4.0/5.0 TA rating for this one should at least give some comfort that it will, at the very least, be decent4* Downtown for $193Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet --> Gild Hall would be my guess here. Just like above, this HOTWIRE property has a 4.5/5.0 TA rating so that should give some comfort in buying this a bit 'blind'3* Downtown for $169/niteFree Internet Fitness Business Hi-Speed Internet --> my guess for this one would be the Holiday Inn New York City - Manhattan EastDo any of the above work for your needs and budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ygong Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 Thanks for your help. They look much better, but I still couldn't make up my mind because prices are still expensive and I do not know MTE. I've only heard about Time Square and Soho. Can you tell me which Manhattan areas are safe for walking around at night? If I want to go for shopping in NYC, when is a better time to go? Thanks in advance?
thereuare Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 While rates may be higher than you expected, given the SuperBowl, these rates are actually quite reasonable, imo.Where is it that you intend to go shopping?Downtown has the discount department store Century 21 and is near the boutiques of Soho... but is less centrally located to many of the tourist spots... MTE will get you closer to the shopping of Fifth Avenue (and closer to Macy's too, although would not exactly be walkable)Both areas are generally considered to be safe, but you should always be aware of your surroundings as you would in any large city. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ygong Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 I am planning to visit boutiques to look for affordable fashions. I prefer to stay within walking distances or at least convenient transportation to the boutiques. When is the next available time to look for deals? And where are the better locations in Manhattan? Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I am planning to visit boutiques to look for affordable fashions. There are boutiques all over the city, do you have a specific area you know you'll be shopping in?When is the next available time to look for deals? There is no 'time' to shop for deals... the offers above may be available up until the day of your arrival or they could disappear tomorrow. Reality could always differ from expectations, but the expectation is that the city will be crazy due to the SuperBowl, and hotels are pricing rooms accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ygong Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 So what about discounts for shopping? When will be a better time to visit NYC to get deal for shopping? Do you have any suggestions?
thereuare Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I'm not a NYC clothing shopper so i can't comment on when to find sales/deals at boutiques... the Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall and the outlet mall in Elizabeth NJ are popular name places to shop for mainstream name brands, but not really the same merchandise as the NYC boutiques if that is what you're looking for. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
