austrianmarkers Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 I'm going to Chicago for Lollapalooza and will need a hotel from 7/31/14 - 8/4/14. I've started my bids at $90/night and have bid up to $145/night but haven't had any success. Ideally, I would like something less than $125/night. Is it perhaps too far out to bid? Or, will the prices likely remain high because of the music festival? Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided. Once again, here are the specifications: 4*Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park OR North Michigan Ave - River North Area7/31-14 - 8/4/14 (+/- one day range)<$125/night
AaronJB Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 This is traditionally one of the worst periods of the year, as you get the combination of Summer traffic as well as the sizable crowds of the music festival. If past years are any indication, rates are not going to get any cheaper as the date/s get closer and hotels very well may hold back inventory for "walk-ins" - they know they're going to have people trying to get last minute reservations. This period usually follows a fairly predictable pattern, with the hotels South of the river filling up first - people want to be closer to the festival, despite the fact that the River North-NMA area is really not that much further - and then eventually the River North-NMA hotels start to fill up as they get overflow once Loop hotels fill up. Have you bid up to $145 in both zone/s? Unfortunately, I think $125 is not possible for a 4* for these date/s - you MAY be able to get a 3.5* in the River North-NMA in the $115-130 neighborhood - while it's understandable wanting a 4*, I think a 3.5* may be worth considering if you are primarily looking for a place to sleep. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
austrianmarkers Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the advice! I actually managed to find a great deal at the Millennium Knickerbocker ($108/night) for the aforementioned dates. I'll also be traveling to Chicago on May 16th and will need a hotel that night. Ideally, I'd like to pay under $100 and would like to stay in the downtown area. Thanks for the help.
AaronJB Posted March 17, 2014 Report Posted March 17, 2014 Congrats on your success. :) This is a stunning price for the Summer - and even more impressive that it's during the Lollapalooza period. Great location, as well. Please let us know if you have any Chicago questions. Also, can you confirm the amenities that were showing with this listing? This information is under the trip information in your Hot.wire account. Please start an additional thread for your 5/16 stay - thanks. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
