I may not have researched enough - but I did not see the James as a possibility - but we are ok with it. Hope this helps someone else!

AaronJB Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 The Intercontinental is a fine hotel with a neat history, but I think the James is a really a better result. Hope you are looking forward to your stay.Let us know if you have any Chicago questions.Enjoy your stay.
signorina Posted January 2, 2014 Author Report Posted January 2, 2014 We were very disappointed in The James. Out initial room was small, dingy and it utterly lacked clothing storage, lighting and charm. It had the smallest bathroom ever! It was more like a cheap college studio apartment (complete with rumpled futon as seating). Definitely not on par with the comparables (we've stayed at both the Intercontinental-business & Sofitel-pleasure quite a few times) and far below the "lesser rated" hotels we stayed in- Embassy Suites on Columbus, Hilton Suites on Delaware, Hyatt Regency. Definitely not a 4.5 star. I stay in Chicago 6-8 x a year and lived there most of my life and still work in the vicinity although I live in WI. Hotwire was surprisingly great. I called to let them know our disappointment and they called the front desk and had us upgraded to a junior king suite, iirc. It was a huge improvement but still not a luxury experience. I'm glad we didn't overpay. Location was fabulous!Hope this helps someone else!
