Priceline Hotel: Christmas in Manhattan

Hi guys, I am new to the forum as well as new to priceline!

My husband and I are going to NY from the 25 to the 30 december. We have booked in Brooklyn. The commute to Manhattan take almost 1 hour and since we have only 4 days and half to enjoy the city, we'd rather stay in Manhattan. I can cancel my booking until the 19th december (tomorrow!)

Yesterday at 7 pm I have tried to bid for 4 star hotel, the maximum I can pay is 140$ per night. (I am paying 130 in Brooklyn). The offer was, of course, rejected.

I want to try by lowering the star to 3 and 1/2.

if now I bid for 3 and 1/2 star at 120$ then I have to wait 24 hours from now, to rebid with higher price or it consider my first bidding of yesterday?

I don't know if I explained myself good. I am italian, sorry about that.

Thank you for everyone who will help!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

To clarify (if you're not aware) the issue you're having is that your end dates are right before New Year's Eve, one of the busiest nites of the year in NYC, and many who are staying overnite in a hotel will come a few days before and/or after. At the moment i don't think lowering your star rating will help much, but if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option that may help.

For example, if you search 12/25-12/28 there is a 3.5* hotel in Times Square for $142/nite, a 4* Downtown hotel for $148, and Jersey City (NJ) may be an option too where a 4* hotel near the PATH station (which an have you into the city in 15-20 minutes) can be had for $109/nite. From there you could either stay in Brooklyn from 12/28-12/30 (if you're able to get the same rate as you're currently seeing, which may be not likely) and/or take some of the savings (especially from the Jersey City example) and use that to increase your budget for 12/28-12/30.

Thank you so much for your kind answer! splitting the stay would be a good idea if I only had much time ... there are so many things to see and do in NY and we are already in a rush, so I don't want to waste time with transfers and staff... I am going to make my last offer lowering the star rating, if it doesn't work (which is very likely) I am going to stay in Brooklyn.

Thank yo so much! I'll let you know!

As per your reply, it comes down to 'wasting' time every day with a commute (is that one hour each way, making it two hours per day... or half hour each way? it all depends exactly where in Brooklyn you are staying)... vs. taking the time to make the 'swap' once.

Assuming you're not in the US already and this is part of an extension of an existing trip, what airport are you flying in to?
