plj Posted December 12, 2013 Report Posted December 12, 2013 I bid on a 4* in several NYC Manhattan regions, including Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Central Park South.I've bid successfully on Priceline for years, even booking rooms for our family of 5 while in Europe a few years ago. This is by far the most disappointed I've ever been with a win. The $120 win was for a full sized bed (I am travelling with my sister and mom to a cancer specialist for my mom in NYC). We need two beds, but Priceline does not have an option when you bid to specify the number in the room. I have always been aware of this, but it has never been a problem to call the hotel and request two queens or two fulls instead of one bed. However, Priceline has been adding "boutique" hotels to their listings and this particular hotel (Hudson) noted that I must pay an ADDITIONAL $120 to upgrade to two beds from the one full. The clerk also noted that the room is only 150 sf and a rollaway will not fit and is not permitted. I was very disappointed. I essentially GAVE AWAY that $152 ($120 plus taxes/fees). Priceline customer service reps were not helpful, either. I feel like it is a huge racket. So disappointing. I will be sticking with Travelocity and Hotwire when travelling with more than 2 people in the future, since they allow you to specify "number of people in room." I ended up booking The New York Palace (4.5*) for that night for only $167 + fees and TWO beds!! (I guess I am really paying $167 plus the $152 for the unused room -uuughhhhh).Thank you for providing this board/forum! I've used it for years! I hope everyone knows to click through to PRICELINE and HOTWIRE from this forum to book a room.
thereuare Posted December 12, 2013 Report Posted December 12, 2013 Sorry to see you're disappointed with this win, but why not still use the room just for sleeping purposes for one of the three of you? While getting a room with two beds may not be an issue in many parts of the country (such as Orlando which is used to accommodating families), we don't recommend using PRICELINE for more than two people in NYC as most hotels have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed and rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade from 'standard' and cost more (even when booking direct)Thank you for providing this board/forum! I've used it for years! We're glad to hear the board has been helpful to you over the years. We hope that you continue to share your wins with the board so that others can benefit from the information, just as you have benefited from those who have posted before you.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
