Hey! Would like to use Priceline to book a room for Dec. 25-28 in NYC. Have read info from your site and am hopefully ready to bid and re-bid. What's the chances of getting something 4 star for less than $150 a night in Midtown areas, Upper east or west side, or Empire State or Madison Square Garden area? Daughter is there and can't come home for Christmas so trying to do a last minute with not much money. Any advice about bidding/areas, etc. to help this mom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your service!!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At current rates for the 4* level you'll likely need to expend to Downtown in order to be close to your $150 bid price... for midtown you'll likely need to expand your budget closer to the $175/nite area. The 'problem' date is the nite of 12/27 as that starts the arrival of those looking to make an extended trip of the New Year's Eve holiday.

You could get a 4* hotel in Midtown for $130/nite and then stay elsewhere for the nite of 12/27 (there is a 4* hotel for $200/nite which would average to just over your $150/nite budget)... OR if your dates are flexible and you could stay in the city 12/24-12/27 then i don't think your budget would be any issue.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Also, if looking to bid on PRICELINE, please confirm which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept so that there is no ambiguity in regards to which zones you mean by 'midtown'.

Thanks for your help! We already have plane tickets based on when our daughter is off and so the dates can't be changed. She lives on 34th St. but we would be willing to stay further out as long as it was close to a subway where we could easily get back and forth. I was thinking of upper west or upper east or even central park south as well as lower east. She lives pretty close to Madison Square Garden. Would we be better to bid down to 3 star or go a little further out. Also - not sure about fees/ taxes. I want our total bill to be no more than $550 -$600 - but of course would love for it to be a little less. Any advice is much appreciated as I would really like to nail this down tomorrow night. I appreciate your time in helping me with my first bidding experience!! I teach first grade so I love a challenge - and a bargain!!

HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the MSG zone for $148/nite with:

Free Internet

Boutique

Smoke Free

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Blind Accessible

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Wheelchair Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Handicapped Parking

Roll-in Shower

Best guess for this property would be the Yotel Times Square which gets good reviews (4.5/5.0 TA rating)... does this work for your plans? (this property has never been reported to the board thru PRICELINE so it likely is not an option by bidding)

While i think the above will likely be your best bet, i will also mention that if you're willing to stay in Jersey City what appears to be the Westin is offered for $87/nite. This property is very near the PATH train which can then take to 33rd St and Sixth Ave (about 15 minute ride on the train)... it's not as convenient as being directly in the Manhattan and you won't be able to be as spontaneous to just 'pick up and go' to meet up with your daughter, but if budget is a concern, it's certainly a viable option.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know your thoughts or what you decide/how it goes or how we can be of further help.

PS- the more west of Madison Square Garden your daughter lives the more convenient the Yotel becomes... the more east of Madison Square Garden the more viable the Jersey City/PATH train option becomes.

Thanks so much for the info!! Ok - I think I have narrowed it down to the Yotel or the Doubletree Metropolitan. They have a rate $534. It looks like the Yotel will be around $554 unless I use the $10 off coupon for a new member. What do you think?

The Yotel does have a robot that takes care of luggage (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2007354/The-Yotel-robot-takes-care-hotel-guests-luggage.html.) Both locations are very nice in their own regard, but I think in the middle of Winter w/cold weather, the Yotel would be a more convenient and appealing location for not too much more.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Took everything ya'll said into consideration and went with the Yotel. The price had gone up a few dollars but not too much. The location was def the deciding factor. THanks for making it easier to make a quick decision. Appreciate your help!
