Arriving afternoon of Thursday February 13 and leaving early evening of Sunday February 16 (3 nights). Through Booking.com I did get a good rate at the Silka Far East in Kowloon (3-star by most website and traveler ratings) without having to prepay, about $77 USD/night.I am hoping to "trade up" to a 4-star hotel, preferably a little more centrally-located in Kowloon or on Hong Kong Island. I don't want to be in the part of Kowloon that's over by the old Kai Tak airport and I don't want to be in Lantau (new HK airport) or the New Territories. If on H.K. Island I think Central, Causeway Bay, or Wanchai are best.I've been checking all search engines with multi-site capabilities daily and have taken a look at the prepaid Express type deals on Hotwire, Priceline, Expedia, etc. I did have good luck last summer with a Priceline Express Deal in Chicago that I was happy with, but the Hong Kong rates for these are over what I think I can afford. Does anyone have any idea if I can snag a 4-star in one of the areas above on those dates? Probably can go to around $100 USD/night. Thanks!

hbeach Posted December 10, 2013 Author Report Posted December 10, 2013 I'm looking at PRICELINE's map (and I think HOTWIRE and the rest of the lot are pretty much the same with the neighborhood boundaries):For Kowloon I'd look at Central Kowloon, Mongkok, Jordan, and Tsim Sha Tsui.For Hong Kong Island I'd say West & East H.K. Island. Within those are Central & Western, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay.Being able to use public transit to get around is important. I know some of the hotels, especially on Western H.K. Island offer shuttles to MTR, but I'd like to be able to walk to a station.

I mentioned them the way that I did because those who know Hong Kong would be able to have a point of reference, since those sub-areas come up a lot in other hotel site listings.

Also, while I'd certainly like to keep my cost per night low ($80-90), I think for a 4-star I would go as high as $100 per night. From what I've seen with regular pricing that might be a pipe dream in these zones but I'd like to give it a shot!
