thereuare Posted December 7, 2013 Report Posted December 7, 2013 A new amenity set for the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center would be my best guess as well for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. tuxcedo Posted December 8, 2013 Author Report Posted December 8, 2013 I'm very comfortable with priceline, since it's my go-to spot for hotel discounts. I have much less confidence on hotwire, having only used it a couple of times. My concern is that hotwire lists the Doubletree by Hilton Paradise Valley as a 4* (priceline rightly rates it a 3 1/2*). Can anyone tell me if the Doubletree is considered to be in the Scottsdale zone according to hotwire. My dilemma: I would welcome the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center at this rate...but not the Doubletree Paradise Valley...
thereuare Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 My best guess is still that this is the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center, but I don't see any way to 100% rule out a new amenity set for the Doubletree.Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. tuxcedo Posted December 9, 2013 Author Report Posted December 9, 2013 Well...I got creative and noticed that the front end of my vacation was cheaper than the back end. So I narrowed my search on PRICELINE to 12/27-1/1 for a 4* in Scottsdale. I started my bidding at $49...and lo and behold, I hit pay dirt...I got the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center. I had bid the whole trip up to $71 2 weeks ago with no luck so I was looking for other options.I really don't want to talk my wife into changing hotels mid-vacation...so now I need 3 more nights at the same resort. HOTWIRE is still showing the same hotel description I mentioned above for 1/1-1/4 for $68/nite. If I knew it was the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center I'd grab it...instead, I'm biting my nails...I'll post my win on the other forum......and let you know the final chapter...
tuxcedo Posted December 9, 2013 Author Report Posted December 9, 2013 2 weeks ago, I bid on a 4* in Scottsdale for 12/27-1/4 and gave up when I got up to $71. Today I reduced my window to 12/27-1/2 and I got the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center on my first bid...for $49...I guess I should have shot lower. But I'm very happy! Now I've got to find the other 3 nites...
thereuare Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 Congratulations on your (partial) success thus far! Nice to see this was one of the hotels you were hoping for (and more importantly avoiding the hotel you didn't want)... have you tried the '[extend your stay' option with PRICELINE?Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy this leg of your trip. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
tuxcedo Posted December 9, 2013 Author Report Posted December 9, 2013 Thanks...I tried that "extend your stay" option and was offered another nite at $199...Today I bid on 1/1-1/4 for a 4* and ran out of rebids at $71. Maybe there's a big conference at the Scottsdale R&C Center on those dates. That makes me think that the hotwire hotel for $68 is not this one. The good news is that my lovely wife is so happy with my $49 win that she is willing to change hotels mid-vacation...so that may be our fate.I'm going to lay in the weeds for awhile...
