Travelgirl6 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Hello, going on a cruise out of Manhattan cruise port terminal (711 12th ave) and would like to experience one night in New York (sat. Dec. 14th) before we go. There will be 4 adults so I believe I read somewhere to use hotwire cause you can enter #of travelers?? Also, what about parking for our vehicle will that be included in our cost or listed separately. We would like to walk around and take in the sites like Times Square, Macys, Rockefeller. What areas would be recommended for this? I would like to try the bidding process and only committed if they accept my bid, correct? Thanks so much for the help.
thereuare Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! There will be 4 adults so I believe I read somewhere to use hotwire cause you can enter #of travelers?? I would like to try the bidding process and only committed if they accept my bid, correct?Regarding occupancy you are correct that HOTWIRE is the better option since you can include the number of guests, but there is no bidding on HOTWIRE (bidding is only on PRICELINE). You search and HOTWIRE shows the price and details of the hotel (star rating, zone, amenities, user review information... but not the name of the hotel) and you can determine if you want to make the purchase or not. Also, what about parking for our vehicle will that be included in our cost or listed separately.Parking is additional and you can purchase direct from the hotel, but it is usually expensive, and you can likely do better by parking at a nearby garage not affiliate with the hotel (or dropping off your bags at the hotel while 2 people check-in and the other two people can drive to the pier and park, then walk/cab back to the hotel, and then the next day you take a taxi to the pier)What is your desired star rating and expected budget, as that will likely determine what options you have for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Travelgirl6 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Report Posted December 2, 2013 I would like to spend no more than $250-275 for the hotel and was hoping for 3 1/2 to 4 star which isn't looking possible. I like the idea of bidding on priceline, but if we end up with only 1 double bed that just wouldn't work. I didn't think of maybe parking at the pier the day before then just taking a taxi to the port, I like that idea will have to check and see if that is possible. Thanks for your response.
thereuare Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Dec 14th is one of the last expensive days of the very expensive holiday season... if you could stay one nite after your cruise it would be substantially cheaper. If this is not possible, from what direction are you heading to NYC from? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Travelgirl6 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Report Posted December 2, 2013 We will be coming from Ohio and figured we would just be ready to get home once we returned from the cruise especially since it will be so close to Christmas (not to mention that we are going with our two college aged children and leaving our two high school boys home with gma and gpa). I believe I will check the rates for Sunday, Defember 22nd as we may have to consider it. In addition, we could always stay in NJ or another location as long as there would be easy and convienient transportation into the city.
thereuare Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 ...we could always stay in NJ or another location as long as there would be easy and convienient transportation into the city.Yes, that is the reason why i had asked from which direction you were heading.Searching ht.wire or the nite of 12/22, quad occupancy, you can see that 3.5*/4* hotels are available for around the $150 area.Let us know how you decide you'd like to proceed and we will advise accordingly. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Travelgirl6 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Report Posted December 2, 2013 I'm seeing a 3 1/2 star in Times Square Theatre District for Saturday the 14th says regular price $930 can get for $368. Any idea what hotel it would be? More than what I wanted to pay but might be worth it for hotel and location and ease of getting around. Would that area be better than Hell's Kitchen for seeing the sites? Also, just found 3 star on priceline with bed choice for $339 has 7 guest rating and free breakfast. Any idea what hotel that would be?
AaronJB Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Personally, I like Midtown East (convenient, yet not as crowded/hectic - or expensive, usually)For each of the hotels above please provide the full set of amenities showing with the listing and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the listing(s).Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
