silvergga Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 I received this 3.5* hotel but it was supposed to be a 4* (95%+) hotel.Their own website rates it as a 3.5* 92% hotel:Hotwire standard Hyatt Regency Long Beachhotels.com (sister company) rates it as 3.5* as well:hotels.com Hyatt Regency Long BeachExpedia(parent comapny) rates it as 3.5* as well:Expedia.com/Los-Angeles-Hotels-Hyatt-Regency-Long-Beach.h23483.Hotel-Information"]Expedia Hyatt Regency Long BeachDo I have any recourse? I called them but they were not interested in doing anything. I have used Hotwire before and I do not think I will use them anymore in the future.
AaronJB Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Sorry to hear that the result was a disappointment. Ratings do often vary from service-to-service and hopefully the hotel will exceed expectations. Can you confirm the amenities that were showing with this listing? This information is available under the trip information in your HOTWIRE account.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
thereuare Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 ... and to confirm, you did receive the Hyatt Regency Long Beach (South Pine Avenue) and not the Hyatt The Pike Long Beach (Bay Street)? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. silvergga Posted November 25, 2013 Author Report Posted November 25, 2013 Received Hyatt Regency. The Pike is the real 4* hotel which I hoped to get.Hotwire's deceptive star rating is frustrating. They defend by saying hotrate has its own rating system, so it might not has the same star rating as other sites - even their own standard rate site / parent Expedia.com / sister-company hotels.comHowever, I have never heard of a hotel which e.g. Hotwire rates as 3*, while it is 4-5* everywhere else. They are just inflating the stars to deceive their customers in order to make more money. I don't see myself using them in the future.
thereuare Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 While i understand your frustration with the star ratings, regardless of their affiliation with each other, each company operates as a separate entity and uses their own system to rate hotels... just as the 'percent recommended' is for their own customers, not throughout their entire network of sites. If you do decide to use HOTWIRE (or PRICELINE) in the future feel free to ask the board for help before your purchase.Enjoy your stay... hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
