leeroy00 Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 First time in NYC and I'd like to do it right with a nice hotel in Manhatten, prefer midtown west, midtown east, midtown south. Can you give me bidding advice for either a 4* up to $250/night or alternate of 3* up to $200
thereuare Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Is the a reason you're not including the UM/CPS zone?I think this is going to be a tough win up to your maximums above, so i would include as many zones as you are willing to accept in order to increase your chances.Let us know if you are willing to include the UM/CPS zone or not and we'll suggest an appropriate strategy. leeroy00 Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 oh, i meant to add that. include the UM/CPS zone
leeroy00 Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 wow, rejected up to $250 for midtown west, midtown east, and um/cps. please advise with further 4* instructions up to $300, 3* up to 225, and 2.5* up to 180
thereuare Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 I think this is going to be a tough win up to your maximums aboveI said the above earlier, so i'm not entirely surprised by your rejection. We did look at rates for your dates before making the above comments, so if you want help, it would be appreciated if you gave us more than 45 minutes to reply before moving forward on your own. leeroy00 Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 sorry, was getting anxious. still in the same boat with no hotel. any help is appreciated.
thereuare Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Did you include MTS above? Did you want to (or did you 'swap' MTS and UM/CPS in your first post)Do you first want to try for a 3* or did you want to try for a 4* up to your (new) maximum bid amount? leeroy00 Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 I included MTE, MTW, MTS, and UM/CPS.I'd like to try a 3* now.
thereuare Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I don't think your bids will be high enough, but if you want to try...Select 3* MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and MTW...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTS and UM/CPS and MTW...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* MTE and MTW and MTS and UM/CPS...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $225Good Luck and let us know how it goes.If not successful, do you have any type of back-up reservation close to your maximum bid amounts? leeroy00 Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 oh, did i ever pick the wrong weekend. followed your advice and failed. what do you think would be a reasonable midtown 3* bid?how about a 2.5* midtown bid?if not midtown, what other neighborhood alternatives would be good for a tourist?oh.. and no backup reservation as of yet.
thereuare Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 With traditional rates in the $5xx range, i suspect a lot of hotels haven't given any discounted inventory to the opaque providers. Add to that you're checking in on a Saturday, and you compound the problem.Given that Sunday nites are often typically the least expensive nite in the city, have you considered SPLITTING YOUR BID? leeroy00 Posted October 23, 2005 Author Report Posted October 23, 2005 unfortunately, i don't plan to split the bid. i'm going for an anniversary and i'd like to keep hassles to a minimum. any suggestions for a winning bid 2.5* in me/mw/ms/um/cps or 3* downtown?
thereuare Posted October 23, 2005 Report Posted October 23, 2005 What is the best deal you can find outside of the opaque suppliers? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
leeroy00 Posted October 24, 2005 Author Report Posted October 24, 2005 In midtown, the best I could find 2* or above was the clarion on priceline for $289/night.In downtown, the best I could find was 3* at an opaque hotel on hotwire for $259/night.All the hotel websites seem to be asking for $500+ or rooms are not available.
thereuare Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 You could reserve the Clarion Park Ave thru QUIKBOOK for $281/nite... has a $10 cancellation fee so at least that would enable you to keep your options open to cotinue to try the opaque providers (i think Priceline's "Shop and Compare" cancellation fee depends upon the property... so compare the two, assuming this is a realistic possibility) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
leeroy00 Posted October 25, 2005 Author Report Posted October 25, 2005 I reserved the clarion at $281/night through quikbook. its a rough time to buy new york tickets. i also tried 2* up to 250 and 3* up to 310 with no success. thanks for your help.
