This turned out to be a gem of a hotel, its right along the river, parking is only $4.00 and the rooms were nice and comfy.

This hotel was formally a Sheraton, as could be read thru the Doubletree decals on the door placards.

The location was great with a wonderfull shaded riverfront park right out back, within blocks is an amusment pavilion, an old brass ring carrosel, a waterfall, and a nice shoping center. :)

Just an update on the Doubletree and our experience.

We were staying in Spokane on a quick overnight as we were driving from Canada to Idaho so our expectations weren't high, we just needed a good place to sleep.

First, the hotel is perfectly situated downtown and right next to the Convention Center. It's across the river from Gonzaga and the new campuses of Washington State and Eastern Washington U extension campuses. The Riverwalk is right behind the hotel and it's really a fantastic experience. It's a 5 minute walk to what I think is the old Expo fair site where there is a ton of green space, play areas, memorials etc. It's really beautiful.

From there, we walked to the rest of downtown where the city of Spokane has spent a great deal of effort to revitalize the area. There are great shops, restaurants and you can tell the downtown core is really coming back into vogue. Btw - this is all within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel.

As for the hotel itself, the front-desk was swamped when we arrived but the staff was curteous and professional and we moved through seamlessly. You can either park out-front with valet for $15 or right next door at the Convention Center garage for $8.

We had a room with two doubles and found it to be clean with new beds/mattresses and nice linens and pillows. You won't be bowled over by the rooms but they are well-taken care of and there are little touches that the hotel extends like the free cookies and a very nice Neutregena Bath Products package in each bathroom. The free wifi in each hotel room was a fantastic extra bonus.

The hotel fitness room isn't large but it has a Precor, a couple of Stairmasters and two or three nice treadmill machines that you'd see in a fitness club. The hotel has also added an outdoor pool and hot tub. The pool isn't huge, probably 25 x 50 but there are plenty of towels and it amply fit the bill for the kids.

Considering that we paid $51 for the room (not including parking and taxes), we had a very positive experience and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone on the board.

Thanks Thereuare and all the other Board participants.
