SJ Spartan Posted November 11, 2013 Report Posted November 11, 2013 Needed a room in Reno for a couple nights for a college football game. Bid Reno area 3.5 stars (knew the handful of hotels I could get). Denied. Lowered the star level to 3 (knowing circus circus is the only three star in that area and connected to two other 3.5 star hotels) and bumped bid up to $40 and got it. I probably could have gotten the rate a bit lower ($32-$39), but I was running out of time and didn't want to wait. When I typed the amount in, Priceline kept giving me the red box saying my offer had a low chance, but I bid $40 in hopes of possibly getting one of the three 3.5 star hotels. I traditionally start the bidding at 60% of the lowest rate of the star level I'm looking for because if you could get 65% lower they would advertise that, "you can save up to 65%!" Therefore, I start at 60% and work backwards. Unfortuantly, time was not on my side and needed something soon! That being said, I'm happy the win and will continue to use priceline frequently. This is a great site and I can't wait to contribute the 3-5 times a year I use priceline!Note: the hotel list for reno doesn't have circus circus, so please add it under the three stars.
