Priceline Hotel: 4* DC (White House - Downtown) The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel

For the HOTWIRE property I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links.

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool, and then click the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab, do you also see a Roll-in Shower amenity listed for this property?

If so, my best guess for this one would be the The Beacon Hotel... and this property is currently 3.5* rated by PRICELINE and is located in PRICELINE's White House-Downtown zone, which is why you can't necessarily use HOTWIRE to determine what you should bid on PRICELINE. ;)

Rates are not high for these dates but at current rates i believe you'll more likely need to be more in the $75-$95 range for a PRICELINE 4* rated hotel for these dates.

What is your maximum bid per nite for this stay? Also, you do have re-bid zones available at both the 4.5* and 4* levels... are you familiar with re-bidding and is there a reason you're not using these to your advantage? (if you're new to re-bidding please see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and it's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding)... or does the 4* HOTWIRE property work for your needs and you prefer that one at the lower price point?

I am familiar with rebidding, but I don't know what the zones are for DC.

Just tried 4.5 and 4 starts at 63,64,66 no dice.

I am not really sure what my max price is. Mostly want to beat my buddy by wide margin who is staying out in alexandria for 120 a night at rack rate.

Also trying to stay in dupont circle area mostly in some place nice. I did a three week road trip with a price line master and saw him bid on hotels from his smart phone ever day and am trying to master this dark art.

Up to 80 and no dice. Also thinking of opening it up to down town area since it looks like the cheaper four star hotels are more north. I mostly want to be in dupont because I hear it's fun (I am 26), but am meeting up with a friend/person I need to do business with, in Chinatown who lives in NoMA so the northern part of downtown looks cab able to every where I could want to go.

Any insight into my logic that the less expensive four star hotels are the ones that usually take the low bid?

If there is a very large price difference (one hotel is $150 and the other $350) then the lower priced hotel is more likely... but if the difference is not that much (one hotel is $140 and the other $170) then there is little correlation as to the retail price of the hotel and the one that you will receive.

I would be more inclined to take the metro to get around DC quickly and inexpensively, in which case your proximity to a metro station is more important than the actual distance to your ultimately... is there a reason you're intention is to take a cab? A taxi can easily cost your $10-$20 one way which could totally negate any savings you may see on a hotel outside of your preferred zone.
