tigerwing Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Hi,I'm new to this board and Priceline, so I want to ask for some tips on getting a good deal. I'm looking to go to Chicago on 12/6 - 12/8 and would like to stay in the River North area.I have placed bids at 4-stars at 65, 77, 82, and 88 and have been rejected. I placed bids at 3.5-stars at 75, 82, 89, and 93 and all have been rejected.Am I looking too soon? Should I wait a couple of weeks and try again? If I can't get a good deal, then I will stay in the burbs and take the train. But I prefer to stay at River North. Thanks,Dave
thereuare Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. At the moment i'm guessing a 4* hotel in the NMA zone will likely run you in the $125 area.HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the Magnificent Mile Area - River North for $90/nite with:Free Internet Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower ... my guess here would be the Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan if this would work for your needs.I'll also add that if you're willing to stay in the Millennium Park, Loop and Grant Park area you can likely get a 4* hotel there for $75 or less (which might be a better option then resort to the suburbs)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. AaronJB Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 I am the first person to suggest staying in the burbs (I often recommend the North burbs), but I think in December it becomes a matter of whether or not the difference is worth the trek in cold weather (the last couple of Winters in Chicago have been considerably better than they used to be, but who knows what next Winter may be like.)Because of holiday shopping or some other reason, NMA seems considerably more expensive than the Loop for these date/s. While I usually recommend NMA, there's a 4* in the Loop on HOTWIRE for $88, and you could likely do moderately better via bidding. There's a 4* in the Northbrook area on HOTWIRE for $68, but if you could get a 4* in the Loop for $88 on HOTWIRE, $20 more for not having to ride the train in, not having to pay for the train, etc.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
tigerwing Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks for your suggestions. I will give the Loop area a try. I will post my results when I get them.Dave
tigerwing Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 I'm looking in PRICELINE and see a 4-star in the Millenium Park, Loop, and Grant Park Express deal for $74 a night. Only amenities listed is Business Center and Fitness Center. Any ideas on which hotel this might be?Dave
AaronJB Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 These are common amenities so it may be a few different possibilities. Given the 8 rating I'm seeing on the listing, the Palmer, Hilton Towers, Fairmont and Blackstone Renaissance would be possibilities. I'd say the first two are more likely.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
tigerwing Posted November 4, 2013 Author Report Posted November 4, 2013 Hi Everyone,Just want to follow up, I placed a bid on a 4-star in the Millenium Park and Loop and also River North. I made my first bid for $68 and got the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Thanks to everyone for your help.Dave
AaronJB Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)I think you definitely made the right choice - very nice rate for this centrally located property, which is right on the border of the NMA zone you were originally bidding for.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
