jazztalker Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Could use some help, I've never been to NYC before nor ever bid on Priceline. I want to stay in the Times Square area, or as close as possible. Would like 4* or better, and preferably under $200/night. Is this possible? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. Please confirm all acceptable zones. I'd suggest considering other, nearby zone/s such as MTE. TS is arguably the most popular zone, but it's also the most expensive and crowded. There are a number of HOTWIRE listings in the Midtown area in your PRICELINE and I'd suggest looking at PRICELINE Express. In terms of TS, I think you may be able to get a 4* within your desired price range, but it will likely be towards the top end of your range. Other, nearby zones (MTE) will be at least moderately cheaper.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jazztalker Posted October 26, 2013 Author Report Posted October 26, 2013 Aaron, thanks for the reply. For acceptable zones I'd say Times Square and Midtown West and then maybe Central Park South and Mid Town East if I have to.Thanks.
thereuare Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.I think a 4* hotel in Times Square for these dates may be difficult but at current rates you should be able to get something in the MTW zone for under $200.When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTW...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Bid $185Any questions (especially regarding re-bidding if you're new to the subject) feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jazztalker Posted October 27, 2013 Author Report Posted October 27, 2013 Thanks for the help, I'm still working through the bids, no luck at those prices so far. I'm also adding Central Park South to my acceptable zones.I also noticed a deal on Hotwire that I'm curious if anyone knows what it might be. Midtown Central, 4 star, 75% recommended (out of 58 total reviews, 4 out of 5 on Tripadvisor, amenities include free internet, pet friendly, boutique, business center and internet access. That one is $186/night. Any best guesses? Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 The Mansfield Hotel has previously been seen with the amenity set of the 4* MTC property above so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. jazztalker Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 Sorry, I found another one I'm curious about on Hotwire. Times Square area, $195/night, 4 star, 4 out of 5 and 90% recommended on Trip Advisor, amenities include pet friendly, smoke free rooms, fitness center, restaurants, internet access.I tried finding something on Trip Advisor coming close to that, but couldn't. Any guesses? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 I think there may be more amenities associated with this listing. If you search via BiddingHelper.com, then click "Hotwire Easy View", do you see additional amenities? If so, please provide the full list and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jazztalker Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 Oh, cool... that's a helpful tool! But no, it didn't list any additional amenities for that hotel.
thereuare Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Best guess for the 4* MTC property would be the Mansfield Hotel.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help along the way. iamjwk Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 I think the 4* in Times Square could be the Algonquin.
jazztalker Posted October 31, 2013 Author Report Posted October 31, 2013 Sorry, took a couple days off from frustration :)It doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to find something on Priceline in my price range (which I'm moving closer to $175 before taxes) and location preference. However, on Hotwire I found something intriguing. If I book Friday and Saturday nights by themselves, I seem to be able to get a pretty good deal. I can do 11/22-11/23, Midtown Central, 4*, 90% rec, pet friendly, smoke free, fitness, restaurant, business center, internet access for $161. I can also do 11/23-11/24, Midtown Central, 4*, 90% rec, pet friendly, smoke free, fitness, restaurant, business center, internet access for $117. To me, it looks like these are the exact same (trip advisor ratings for each category are the exact same too, same total # of reviews, etc.)Any guess what property this might be? Any downside of doing it this way (besides the possibility of having to move to a different hotel if they turn out to not be the same)? Thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Best guess for the HOTWIRE property would be the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.Other than the risk of receiving different hotels, there are no issues making the purchase in two separate transactions like this. At check-in let them know that you have a separate reservation for the following nite and ask them to block the room as this will minimize the chance that you will have to change rooms (within the same property). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
